  • Review of 2008/09 – Part 2 – Bouncing Back with Grayson
Review of 2008/09 – Part 2 – Bouncing back with Grayson The appointment of Simon Grayson as new Leeds United manager just before Christmas 2008 revived spirits at Elland Road after a lengthy losing run. The new man was delighted with the opportunity: "What I couldn't turn down was the chance to test myself ... The attraction for me is that I want to be the one who makes this club successful again ... Managers have come and gone and not been able to do that. I think I can. "This Leeds team are outside the Play Off positions and I'm not saying that we're going Simon Grayson at Elland Road after taking over as United manager in to win 10 on the trot like Blackpool did, but December 2008 it's always a possibility. That's why I'm not prepared to concede that automatic promotion has got away from us. "I told Karl (Oyston) straight away that I wanted to come. I think he knew that I'd give him that answer and so did everyone at Blackpool. From there it was down to the two clubs to sort things out, but there was no way I was going to let this opportunity pass me by ... I do wish it had been sorted in the manner I would have wanted after six good years there and that I'd walked away without any of this legal stuff going on above me, but these things happen in football. "The expectancy level at Leeds is higher than it is at a dozen clubs in the Championship and certainly every club in this division ..

Matches – 8 May 2006 – Preston North End 0 Leeds United 2 Championship Play Off semi final 2nd leg – Deepdale – 20,383 – Leeds won 3-1 on aggregate Scorers: Hulse (56), Richardson (61) Preston North End: Nash, Mears, Davis, Alexander, Mawene, Ormerod (Whaley 10), O'Neil, McKenna, Stewart (Agyemang 45), Nugent, Dichio Leeds United: Sullivan, Kelly, Gregan, Kilgallon, Crainey, Richardson, Derry, Miller, Douglas, Lewis (Stone 88), Hulse (Cresswell 78) For Leeds United, the shiny nugget of automatic promotion had been something of a forlorn hope through most of the 2005/06 season. The early season sprints of Reading and Sheffield United had taken them well clear of the chasing pack and built enough of a cushion to more or less guarantee a Premiership place. Nervy jitters had dogged the Blades from the middle of January and Leeds had been inexorably hauling them in until their own late collapse had seen them capture just nine points from the last ten games. That sentenced United to Man with a plan? Kevin Blackwell watches Leeds lose in the lottery of the Championship play offs and pitched them the final Championship game of the season at Deepdale against a dogged Preston North End outfit. The Deepdale team had secured 26 points from their own final ten matches and were the division’s form team. They had ended the season with the best defensive record in the Championship and when they defeated Leeds 2-0 in the closing contest at Deepdale on Sunday, April 30, they climbed above United into fourth spot, giving them home advantage in the decisive second leg.

  • Peterborough United by Ensuring All Fans Have a Voice
Newsletter Issue 49 March 2019 Connecting Club and Community Safeguarding the future of Peterborough United by ensuring all fans have a voice Chair's Notes It’s been a very active time at Posh during the 6 months since our last newsletter publication. In October the Supporters Trust was proud to assist Peter Lane with the official launch of the “Posh Hall of Fame” at the ABAX Stadium. Many of the inductees, or family representatives were in attendance, for an evening of nostalgic memories and stories to honour the 32 members. In excess of £1,200 was raised on the night and donated to Jada-Lea Quow, the daughter of one of the legends we honoured, Trevor Quow. The Trust also held our 16th Annual General Meeting on 22nd November. Ray Cole, John Lawrence and Frank Harburn stepped down from the board at the AGM and we thank them for their excellent contribution to the Trust in recent years. On the pitch with no less than 18 new enthusiastic players seeking to impress and make the first team, Posh were off to a flying start to the season. By the end of September, Posh played 10 league games scoring 26 goals, with 7 wins and 2 draws. Since then, whilst Posh have maintained a play-off position, too many draws, conceding goals and inconsistent performances led to a change of management at the end of January. The Trust welcome Darren Ferguson and Gavin Strachan back to the club and wish Steve Evans and Paul Raynor all the best for the future.
