The fire station is located between the Kopišar House and Belcijan Hotel. It has been home to the voluntary fire brigade of Planina pod Golico for over 80 years. A new tourist information office is located in an extension to the station, where visitors can get information and promotional material or buy souvenirs and postcards. A monument to the local partisans who fell during World War Betel II stands opposite the fire station by the road. From here on the trail is only downhill, first past the Čop inn, which stands on the site of the former shop, and towards the Španov vrh ski slope. 2 Following the Trail of Farms Walking towards the village, you will notice secluded farms 6 5 scattered on the slopes of the Karavanke. The clear Jesenica stream, which arises at the confluence of the Beli potok (White stream) and the Črni potok (Black stream), will accompany you for the entire time. Črni potok got its name after its colour, because people used to wash the ore in it 4 and it was always muddy, i.e. black. Udamčeva žaga is the only one of the original numerous sawmills and mills in the area that is still in operation, and it uses the water power of the Jesenica stream instead of electricity. Traces of former fields still remain on the slopes which are today covered in grass. People used to grow grains, potatoes and even flax there. After World War II tobacco was also grown in the area of Plavški Rovt and , located a bit 3 lower down the hill. The Pri Konarju farm had save money to such an extent that they often brought sheep grazing at 7 Golica down to fertilize their pastures during the summer.

A source of drinking water is found a bit further on, where you can freshen up. The water is proven drinkable and is rich in minerals. The walls of the ruined sawmill, standing just a few steps from the water source, are evidence of the rich rock structure of the Karavanke. One of the typical rocks is flint conglomerate, and here we also have to mention Tarvisio breccia from the nearby village of Mirca, which was used in building the Karavanke railway tunnel.

5 To Sv. Križ The trail first takes us to a junction. From here we take the road to the formermilitary frontier checkpoint (about a 20-minute walk), passing the Žlindr farm. In this way we continue up the valley. A shorter circular trail turns right and uphill towards the church. The Church of the Holy Cross was built so that miners did not have to walk to church on work-free Sundays to the distant of Jesenice - where they could also go to the town inns and thus not be able to carry on the hard mining work the next day. Another story behind the reason for building the church goes that the owner of the mines promised a new church to the miners, if they found new deposits of iron ore. This actually did happen and the Church of the Holy Cross was built in the second half of the 17th century. It is also home to St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners, and St. Florian, the patron saint of fire fighters. Joža Čop (1893–1975), the well-known Slovene alpinist and mountaineer, who pioneered 24 climbing routes, is buried at the church cemetery. Have you ever heard of the Čop pillar in the North Face of Mount Triglav?
