PSO launches new power outage information map

Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) customers now have access to a new, interactive map that provides more detailed information about power outages. PSO’s new outage mapping tool makes it easier for customers to search for or report a power outage at PSOklahoma.com. Information about power outages is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. “Although we work hard to avoid power outages, we understand that our customers want to know what is happening and be able to plan next steps when a power outage does happen. Our new, interactive map provides a quick and easy way for customers to get outage information while we’re working to restore power,” said Steve Baker, PSO vice president, Distribution Operations. Every 15 minutes, the new PSO maps refresh to provide the most up-to-date outage information including: • The date and time the outage was first reported • The estimated time when service will be restored • The number of customers without service due to a specific incident • The cause of the outage (when available) • The total number of customers currently without service Built on a Google Maps platform, the mobile-friendly map allows customers to zoom in to see power outages by street or neighborhood. Outages also are searchable by street, city, zip code or county. Customers can customize using the map with street or satellite views and save as a bookmark. For more information, visit the new outage map at www.PSOklahoma.com/outages. WEATHERFORD DAILY NEWS, WEEKENDER, DECEMBER 17, 2016 - PAGE 1B

ROACH: I am a 74-year-old woman in good health. I was diagnosed with pyoderma gangrenosum on my left leg. I was in a lot of pain. Can you tell me the cause of this rare disease? Also, is there a special diet I should be on? -- H. ANSWER: Pyoderma gangrenosum is an inflammatory disease of the skin. The name suggests a terrifying infectious cause (“pyo” is the Latin root for “pus,” and “gangrene” describes the eating away of tissue), but the name is misleading -- the disease is not due to infection. Over half of people with PG have some other underlying condition, and experts recommend searching for the common associated conditions, even in people who are otherwise healthy. It’s particularly important to look for inflammatory bowel disease; blood disorders, like myeloma or leukemia; and arthritis syndromes, like rheumatoid arthritis. DEAR DR. ROACH: I developed tennis elbow in both elbows about two months ago. My doctor suggested naproxen and a tennis-elbow brace. Is there any physical therapy that would lessen the symptoms? -- L.J. ANSWER: Tennis elbow is caused by chronic inflammation at the epicondyle of the humerus, most commonly the lateral epicondyle. (The lateral epicondyle is a bony prominence on your elbow, on the side your thumb is on when your palm is up). Tennis elbow is mostly a condition of inexpert form, and if indeed you got yours from tennis, a tennis coach will be a good investment. In addition to advice on proper motion, a brace is part of standard treatment, as is a short course of an anti-inflammatory medicine, like naproxen. I absolutely believe in physical therapy, but the precise strengthening and stretching that should be done are beyond the scope of this column and need to be overseen by an experienced physical therapist. DEAR DR. ROACH: What causes vaginal yeast infections? -- J.P.A. ANSWER: Yeast (specifically, Candida albicans) is a normal part of the microbial flora in women, but it is considered an infection when the yeast become invasive and cause inflammation of the vulva and vagina. It’s not always clear what causes the yeast to go from being part of the normal flora to being invasive, but one common cause is antibiotic use. This is especially true of broad- spectrum antibiotics, which kill many different types of bacteria, including healthy ones. Loss of these healthy bacteria allows the Candida yeast to grow. Women with poorly controlled diabetes are more prone to develop yeast infections, and undiagnosed diabetes should be suspected in a woman with recurrences. Other types of immune-system disease, especially HIV but also drugs that suppress the immune system, can cause problems as well. Sexual activity may increase risk for yeast infections, but women who never have sex also might get them, and treating the sexual partner has been Yeast infections can be treated with anti-yeast drugs, either by direct application (vaginal cream) or systemically, with an oral medication. It’s who we are. encourage them to believe Jesus for a miracle. “What if he has residual effects from the seizures?” In the second quarter Dakota Clayton either went up under the basket for a rebound, or was coming down from a shot, when he landed on another players back and was quickly flipped over head first. When Dakota’s head hit the gym floor, the entire crowd gasped, knowing it was a very hard hit. It wasnt until Dakota began to seizure that we realized how serious the injury was. Immediatley officials, coaches, and Dakota’s family rushed to him. Many in the audience instinctively began to pray. Those of us in the stands did not yet know the extent of this injury. But as Dakota’s mom Tina reached him on that floor, she screamed and ran away from him. Thats when I knew, it was really bad. Being a mother, I could instantly identify with Tina’s fear and pain. I began to pray harder. Dakota’s extended family had also attended tonights game, and as his grandmother had reached Dakota by now, she began to pray loud and fervently to God. She prayed loud enough that everyone could hear. And when I say everyone, that includes spiritual forces in heavenly places. I became even more concerned for Dakota as she loudly rebuked a spirit of death. My son James was near and was able to see Dakota. He was crying uncontrollably. I could see how concerned he was for his buddy, I could see the fear. Later James told me that he thought Dakota was going to die. He said, “he watched as Dakota lay there seizing, and he did not see him inhale for minutes, only exhale.” He said, “he kept watching and waiting for him to take a breath but he wasn’t, only exhaling.” By now he had turned purple, “more purple than he had ever seen someone.” Coach Smith rounded up James and Spencer and led them over to join the rest of the team. As the boys walked our way to rejoin their teammates, again I was made aware by their faces, how bad the situation was. The next thing I observed from the stands was the boys huddle together and begin to pray for their teammate. The cheerleaders joined them in crying out to Jesus for mercy. Such sincere heart felt prayer was going up to heaven from these students. It was touching. Reading this, it seems like a lot of time had passed, but it was only a few very long minutes. An ambulance had been called. Dakota was still seizing. Dakota’s grandmother was still loudly and fervently praying. His mother had returned, but still unconsoled and so very concerned for Dakota. Others were trying to hold Dakota’s head up off the floor, as well as keep him from hitting his head anymore. The next thing that happened sent chills through my body. The cheerleaders and the basketball team began to worship the Lord. The gym was filled with the sound of worship... “You’re a good good father, it’s who you are, it’s who you are, it’s who you are.” “And I am loved by you, it’s who I am, It’s who I am, It’s who I am.” “You are perfect in all of your ways, You are perfect in all of your ways, You are perfect in all of your ways, to us.” I still get chills when I replay that moment in my mind. Our children, our students, our peers, going straight to the throne room petitionong God for a miracle. We had taught them to do this. We had encouraged them to pray and petition the Lord when we needed heaven to move on our behalf. And here it was, in action. As the ambulance arrived and the paramedics began to minister to Dakota, I could see that the seizure had stopped. And as they wheeled him out of the gymnasium, at the very last second before they turned the corner with Dakota on the gurney, I saw his hand raise up and touch his face. I thought, “that’s a good sign, he is moving and his brain is functioning.” Immediately after Dakota was taken away, senior classmate Amy Freeman (boldly) invited every person in the gym to come down on the floor and lift their voices and hearts in prayer together for Dakota. Every one came forward and Amy led us all in prayer. One of the things Amy said in the prayer, struck a chord in my spirit right away. She prayed, “God you knew this was going to happen. You knew this was going to happen ten days ago, ten weeks ago, Lord you knew this was going to happen before the foundations of the world!” Wow!, Thats right, I thought. “He knew this was going to happen tonight. So if He knew this was going to happen tonight and He allowed it to happen, then why? And it came to me instantly, for the Glory of God! As we finished praying and returned to our seats, it was clear our boys, could not and would not, finish this game. The boys would forfeit the game, but only after joining the other team in their locker room for one last prayer for DC and each other. On the ride home, I texted James and told him it was right for Dakota’s grandmother to rebuke the spirit of death and that God was healing Dakota. James agreed. Then I began reminding the Lord of all of His scriptures on prayer and healing. (Somewhere along the way, I learned from a teacher that we should remind God of His promises.) In reality it is not Him that has forgotten His promises, it is us. We forget and need to be reminded. Speaking out Gods word on a subject reminds us, and establishes our faith in Him.
