Our popular Monday night line-up is about to become even more scintillating W thanks to some exciting April premieres. So get ready to tune in, stream, binge watch — and enjoy! World on Fire (Mondays at 9pm beginning April 6) a seven-part Masterpiece miniseries, follows the intertwining fates of several families in Britain, Poland, France, Germany, and the United States during the first year of World War II as daily life in Europe is about to be demolished by the Nazi invasion of Poland, the near debacle at Dunkirk, the fall of Paris, and more. Helen Hunt (Mad About You, Shakespeare Uncovered) stars as Nancy Campbell, an American radio reporter in Warsaw and Berlin trying to uncover the truth about the Nazi regime. Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) plays Douglas Bennett, a World War I veteran-turned- pacifist trying to cope with chronic shellshock while looking after his working-class family. His daughter Lois, a feisty armed services entertainer, is involved in a romance with upper-class translator Harry Chase — much to the dismay of his mother Robina, a British fascist sympathizer. COURTESY OF WALL TO MEDIA LIMITED The Windermere Children (Saturday, April 11 at 9:30pm), tells the story of a group of teenaged Holocaust survivors sent to England’s remote, picturesque Lake District for a period of rehabilitation before re-entering society. Baker iv ABSTRACT COSTUME CULTURE: VISUAL RHETORIC, ICONOGRAPHY, AND TOKENISM IN COMIC BOOKS Michael G. Baker, PhD Texas A&M University-Commerce, 2017 Advisor: Christopher Gonzalez, PhD Superhero comic books provide a unique perspective on marginalized characters not only as objects of literary study, but also as opportunities for rhetorical analysis. There are representations of race, gender, sexuality, and identity in the costuming of superheroes that impact how the audience perceives the characters. Because of the association between iconography and identity, the superhero costume becomes linked with the superhero persona (for example the Superman “S” logo is a stand-in for the character). However, when iconography is affected by issues of tokenism, the rhetorical message associated with the symbol becomes more difficult to decode. Since comic books are sales-oriented and have a plethora of tie-in merchandise, the iconography in these symbols has commodified implications for those who choose to interact with them. When consumers costume themselves with the visual rhetoric associated with comic superheroes, the wearers engage in a rhetorical discussion where they perpetuate whatever message the audience places on that image. -

To reach those necessary goals, we strategically use an array of interconnected channels and platforms to transform not only the media landscape but also a cul- ture in which women’s and girls’ voices, stories, experiences, and images are nei- ther suffciently amplifed nor placed on par with the voices, stories, experiences, and images of men and boys. Our strategic tools include monitoring the media; commissioning and conducting research; and undertaking other special initiatives to spotlight gender and racial bias in news coverage, entertainment flm and television, social media, and other key sectors. Our publications include the book “Unspinning the Spin: The Women’s Media Center Guide to Fair and Accurate Language”; “The Women’s Media Center’s Media Guide to Gender Neutral Coverage of Women Candidates + Politicians”; “The Women’s Media Center Media Guide to Covering Reproductive Issues”; “WMC Media Watch: The Gender Gap in Coverage of Reproductive Issues”; “Writing Rape: How U.S. Media Cover Campus Rape and Sexual Assault”; “WMC Investigation: 10-Year Review of Gender & Emmy Nominations”; and the Women’s Media Center’s annual WMC Status of Women in the U.S. -

Chapter I Introduction
CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION A. Background of the Study One of interesting literary theories is Psychology. Psychoanalysis is a branch of psychology that methodology of studying mental process and mental behavior. Psychoanalysis related to structural, process and developmental change. Basically, Psychology has the relation between people behavior and the other human. It comprises everything related to the feeling, thought, behavior, ideas, etc. related to the psychology, every person are created with different personalities. The quality of personality is being a person. Personality is deeper than character. It does not confine itself to an organized expression as character does. In a movie, the personality of the main character is interesting object for the researcher to analyze. Personality in a movie is closely related to personal psychological behavior, because it is shown many ways, like actions, dialogues, attitudes, and characteristics that influence the personality. It means that character can influence personality, but personality is unchanging. Wellek and Werren (1956: 31) in theory of literature state that literature has function as the duce and the utile. They said that the work of literature is successful, the two “notes” of pleasure and utility should not coexist but coalesce. The pleasure of literature need to maintain is not one of 1 2 preferences among along list of possible pleasure but also a “higher-pleasure” because pleasure is higher kind of activity, i.e. non-acquisitive contemplation. Personality is defined by the particular concepts a theorist uses to describe or understand human behavior. According to Pervin (1984: 2) the field of personality is concerned with the total individual and with individual differences. -
