Angiostoma kimmeriense (= A. kimmeriensis) Korol & Spiridonov, 1991 was re-isolated from the snail Oxyhilus sp. in the West Caucasus (Adygea Republic) and characterised morphologically and molecularly. The morphology of the genus Angiostoma Dujardin, 1845 was discussed and vertebrate- associated species suggested to be considered as species insertae sedis based on the head end structure (3 vs 6 lips). Phylogenetic analysis based on partial sequences of three RNA domains (D2-D3 segment of LSU rDNA and ITS rDNA) did not resolve the relationships of A. kimmeriense, as the most similar sequences of these loci were found between members of another gastropod associated genus, Phasmarhabditis Andrássy, 1976. However, such biological traits of A. kimmeriense as its large size, limited number of parasites within the host and the site of infection, point to a parasitic rather than pathogenic/necromenic way of life typical for Phasmarhabditis. This work presents results of two years collecting efforts within the project “The role of the alpine karst area in Bulgaria as reservoir of species diversity”. It summarizes distribution data of 44 terrestrial gastropods from the Bulgarian part of Alibotush Mts. Twenty-seven species are newly recorded from the Alibotush Mts., 13 were con- firmed, while 4 species, previously known from the literature, were not found. In the gastropod fauna of Alibotush Mts. predominate species from Mediterranean zoogeographic complex. A large part of them is endemic species, and this demonstrates the high conservation value of large limestone areas in respect of terrestrial gastropods. Within Ariantinae, C. obtusus stands out because of its aberrant cylindrical shell shape. Here, we present phylogenetic trees based on these five marker sequences and discuss the position of C. obtusus and phylogeographical scenarios in comparison with previously published results. Our results provide strong support for the sister-group relationship between Cylindrus and Arianta confirming previous studies and imply that the split between the two genera is quite old. The tree reveals a phylogeographical pattern of Ariantinae with a well-supported clade comprising the Balkan taxa which is the sister group to a clade with individuals from Alpine localities. -

Einleitung Vor kurzem erhielt ich von H. Sattmann (Naturhistorisches Museum Wien) eine kleine Nacktschneckenaufsammlung aus dem Johnsbachtal zur Bestimmung. Dies wurde zum Anlaß genommen, die Kenntnisse über dieses Gebiet zusammenzufassen, weil unser Wissen noch immer sehr beschränkt ist und weil einige Arten vorkommen, die aus systematischer und nomenklatorischer Sicht interessant und auch problematisch sind. Wegen der angeblichen Schwierigkeiten beim Bestimmen und wegen der Mängel in der Methodik des Sammelns wurden die wenigen gefundenen Nacktschnecken in der Ver- gangenheit geflissentlich übersehen oder unter horrenden Fehlbestimmungen publiziert [vergl. KLEMM (1954), wo Arion distinctus MABILLE 1867 als Arion hortensis (det. H. FRANZ) aus dem Hochgebirge gemeldet wird - eine Verwechslung mit Arion fuscus (O. F. MÜLLER 1774) (= A. subfuscus aut. non DRAPARNAUD 1805)]. Eine erste zusammen- fassende Darstellung finden wir bei REISCHÜTZ (1986) (mit diesem Datum ist allerdings auch die Nacktschneckenforschung in Österreich sanft entschlafen). All previously known Bulgarian slugs from the Arionidae, Milacidae, Limacidae and Agriolimacidae families have been discussed in this paper. It is based on many years of individual field research, examination of all accessible private and museum collections as well as on critical analysis of the published data. The taxa from families to species are sup plied with synonymy, descriptions of external morphology, anatomy, bionomics, distribution and all records from Bulgaria. It also includes the original key to all species. The illustrative material comprises 118 drawings, including 116 made by the author, and maps of localities on UTM grid. The occurrence of 37 slug species was ascertained, including 1 species (Tandonia pirinia- na) which is quite new for scientists. The occurrence of other 4 species known from publications could not bo established. Basing on the variety of slug fauna two zoogeographical limits were indicated. One separating the Stara Pianina Mountains from south-western massifs (Pirin, Rila, Rodopi, Vitosha. Mountains), the other running across the range of Stara Pianina in the^area of Shipka pass. INTRODUCTION Like other Balkan countries, Bulgaria is an area of Palearctic especially interesting in respect to malacofauna. So far little investigation has been carried out on molluscs of that country and very few papers on slugs (mostly contributions) were published. The papers by B a b o r (1898) and J u r in ić (1906) are the oldest ones. -

Morgan1 Abstract Background: Angiostrongylus vasorum is a highly pathogenic metastrongylid nematode affecting dogs, which uses gastropod molluscs as intermediate hosts. The geographical distribution of the parasite appears to be heterogeneous or patchy and understanding of the factors underlying this heterogeneity is limited. In this study, we compared the species of gastropod present and the prevalence of A. vasorum along a rural–urban gradient in two cities in the south-west United Kingdom. Methods: The study was conducted in Swansea in south Wales (a known endemic hotspot for A. vasorum) and Bristol in south-west England (where reported cases are rare). In each location, slugs were sampled from nine sites across three broad habitat types (urban, suburban and rural). A total of 180 slugs were collected in Swansea in autumn 2012 and 338 in Bristol in summer 2014. A 10 mg sample of foot tissue was tested for the presence of A. vasorum by amplification of the second internal transcribed spacer (ITS-2) using a previously validated real-time PCR assay. Results: There was a significant difference in the prevalence of A. vasorum in slugs between cities: 29.4 % in Swansea and 0.3 % in Bristol. In Swansea, prevalence was higher in suburban than in rural and urban areas. -

Für die Aufgliederung der Linien dubia dubia und dubia speciosa muß der letzte Käl- tehöhepunkt der Würmvereisung auslösend gewesen sein. Die Vorläufer von Clausilia dubia dubia und Clausilia dubia speciosa zeigen morphologische Paral- lelen zu den Formen ostösterreichischer Lößfaunen, aus denen auch Clausilia dubia obsoleta hervorgegangen sein muß. Wenn die Beziehungen der beiden ersteren zueinander auch sehr eng sind, sollten doch alle drei Linien als eine Ein- heit angesehen werden. Summary The abundant pleistocene material of Clausilia dubia from different cave and loess localities in Austria made it possible to study its present subspecific dif- ferentiation. Presumably the last pleniglacial period of the alpine Wurmian glacia- tion induced the development of the two lines Clausilia dubia dubia and Clau- silia dubia speciosa. The ancestor forms of Clausilia dubia dubia and Clausilia dubia speciosa show morphological similarities to these dubia specimens which occur in a lot of loess localities in Eastern Austria. -
