January 2010 – Volume 2, Issue 1 THE DRAGON’S LAIR NEWSLETTER OF THE IRON DRAGON KUNG FU AND KICKBOXING CLUB 91 STATION STREET, UNIT 8, AJAX, ONTARIO L1S 3H2 JANUARY 2010 VOLUME 2, ISSUE 1 (905) 427-7370 / [email protected] / www.iron-dragon.ca COMMENTARY HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2010 here we come! Those of you who have heeded Ol’ Sifu’s advice have burst out of the starting blocks to start 2010 up and running. For those brethren who did not and are now horizontal on the couch, recovering from their New Years Eve hangover…..IT IS STILL NOT TOO LATE! LOL! Get ye’ over to yonder Iron Dragon Kung Fu and Kickboxing Club as soon as you can so that you will be ahead of the pack for 2010! CHANGES IN CLASS FORMATS FOR 2010! I am tinkering with the format for Saturdays Circuit Training and MMA class. From now on the new Chinese Wrestling Moves will be introduced on Thursday nights and then the reinforcement of those moves will be done on Saturday along with Open Grappling and also at the end of every Kung Fu Kickboxing Class till the following Thursday. We will use the Ontario Jiu Jitsu Point System to score Saturdays Open Grappling so we can get used to the point system before 2010 grappling competitions. Chinese Wrestling techniques that are not legal in Jiu Jitsu and Grappling will still be taught because they are effective self defense - we just have to remember what is legal in competition! LOL! The Wednesday classes at 12:00 pm and 8:00 pm have been designated as full equipment training classes. -
Miff Announces Record Slate of Premiere Fund Films for 2019 Festival
1 / 2 MIFF ANNOUNCES RECORD SLATE OF PREMIERE FUND FILMS FOR 2019 FESTIVAL Media Release Tuesday 18 June — Media Contact Luke McKinnon E [email protected] M (+61) 408 640 329 Tiki Menegola E [email protected] M (+61) 467 227 822 MIFF 2019 Media Centre The MIFF Premiere Fund delivers seven world and Australian premieres to the 68th Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF), including Paul Ireland’s gritty reimagining of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure staring Hugo Weaving and Maziar Lahooti’s highly anticipated directorial debut, Below. The Premiere Fund, which provides minority co-financing to new Australian quality theatrical (narrative and documentary) feature films that then premiere at MIFF, has invested in more than 70 projects including the MIFF 2019 slate. Four of this year’s suite of Premiere Fund films have also been directed by alumni of the MIFF Accelerator Lab for emerging screen directors, including: John Sheedy, Jayden Stevens, Rodd Rathjen and Maziar Lahooti. Reimagining the Bard’s play about morality, mercy and justice into a topical tale of love and loyalty, Ireland and his co- writer, the late Damian Hill (West of Sunshine, MIFF 2018), have crafted a touching story about a young Muslim woman, Jaiwara, who falls for a non-Muslim musician, Claudio. Ireland’s film takes audiences on an emotional, action-packed ride, with a beautifully-shot Melbourne as the backdrop. As Jaiwara, Megan Hajjar is luminous. Harrison Gilbertson (My Mistress, MIFF Premiere Fund 2014), Fayssal Bazzi (The Merger, MIFF 2018) and Daniel Henshall (Acute Misfortune, MIFF Premiere Fund 2018) join Hugo Weaving in a diverse ensemble that also includes Doris Younane and Mark Leonard Winter in fervently penetrating performance as Angelo. -

C.I.A. agent Casey Alexander (Keith Vitali) has a reputation as being one of the most respected agents in the company. Martial arts instructor Will Alexander (Loren Avedon), Casey's brother, doesn't believe in the entire federal agent shtick and as a result, the two brothers have a serious falling out that starts out at a hunting trip and culminates at the 65th birthday party of their retired agent father John (Joseph Campanella). When John becomes the target of Colombian terrorist Antonio "Franco" Franconi (Rion Hunter), the result of a job in which Franco's son was killed, John is brutally beaten and then ultimately killed by Franco. -

This comes in addition to our adjustment of requesting reports from every region for every issue. Now you have increased opportunities to report on your regional activities as well as a closer deadline to improve the timely nature of your reports. J. New Line released two more Chan films – Jackie Chan’s First Strike (1997) and Mr. Nice Guy (1998) – after they were acquired by the media conglomerate Time Warner. These three films, originally produced and distributed by the Golden Harvest studio in Hong Kong, were distributed and marketed by New Line for release in North America. New Line reedited, rescored, and dubbed these films in order to take advantage of the significant marketing synergies of their conglomerate parents at Time Warner.
