Abstract: This study compared the parasites community in Corydoras ephippifer, Corydoras melanistius, Corydoras amapaensis and Corydoras spilurus from tributaries from the Amapari River in State of Amapá (Brazil). A total of 151 fish of these four ornamental species were examined, of which 66.2% were parasitized by one or more species, and a total of 732 parasites were collected. Corydoras ephippifer (91.2%) and C. spilurus (98.8%) were the most parasitized hosts, while C. amapaensis (9.6%) was the least parasitized. A high similarity (≅ 75%) of parasite communities was found in the host species. -

E-mail: [email protected] Disponible: Agosto 22, 2017 Resumen | Se determinó la diversidad de la ictiofauna en la quebrada La Batalla (Florencia, Caquetá), durante un periodo de diez días, estableciendo nueve puntos de muestreo de 50 m cada uno. La colecta se llevó a cabo utilizando artes de pesca combinados con arrastres continuos y capturas manuales en horas de la mañana, con esfuerzo de muestreo de cinco horas por cada punto. Se registraron variables de temperatura, pH, tipo de sustrato, ancho y profundidad del cauce. Se calculó la curva de acumulación de especies y se analizó la diversidad específica mediante los índices de diversidad de Shannon-Wiener, Margalef y equidad de Pielou. Se hallaron 927 individuos en total, registrados en 6 órdenes, 13 familias, 20 géneros y 23 especies. El orden Characiformes fue el más diverso, con diez especies, un 43,5 % del total de especies capturadas, seguido de los Siluriformes con 26,1 %, Gymnotiformes con 13 %, Perciformes con 8,7 % y por último Lepidosireniformes y Synbranchiformes con un 4,3 %. -

It includes 122 nominal species described all over the world. For each of the species, the most relevant morpholog- ical and morphometric data, as well as data are provided related to the location in the host, type host and type locality. The GenBank accession numbers are provided whenever possible, and the spores were redrawn based on the original descriptions. The bibliography includes all the papers containing the species descriptions. Analysis of the Ornamental Fish Exports from the Amazon State, Brazil*
BOLETIM DO INSTITUTO DE PESCA ISSN 1678-2305 online version Scientific Article ANALYSIS OF THE ORNAMENTAL FISH EXPORTS FROM THE AMAZON STATE, BRAZIL* ABSTRACT The updated status of the ornamental fish trade from the Amazonas state was analyzed between Ivan de Azevedo TRIBUZY-NETO1 the years of 2006-2015 (IBAMA database). The trade of ornamental fish from Amazonas State mainly consists of wild species. A total of 142,552,253 specimens were exported during the studied Hélio BELTRÃO2* period. Sales plummeted since 2006 from 26,075,241 specimens exported to 2,729,846 specimens Zehev Schwartz BENZAKEN3 in 2015 (Jan-Jul). Between 2006 and 2015, a total of US$ 23.0 million in revenue was generated from fish exports destined to 35 countries. Germany, Taiwan, USA and Japan accounted for 75.5% of Kedma Cristine YAMAMOTO2 the volume and 76.7% of the value exported. During this time 375 species were exported, included Paracheirodon axelrodi, P. simulans, Hemigrammus bleheri, Otociclus affinis and O. hoppei that together represented 84.5% of exports. E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT A synopsis of records of the valid species of myxozoans (Myxozoa: Myxosporea) described in the Americas is provided based on a comprehensive survey of the literature since 1893, when the first myxozoan species was reported, until December 2016. This is a synopsis of 495 species, distributed in 36 genera, 15 families, and associated with 286 species of hosts. In terms of numbers of host-parasite associations, fish were the most representative group (97% of the total number of host-parasite associations), whereas records from birds represented 0.2%, crustaceans 0.2%, helminths 0.2%, reptiles 0.8% and 1.6% from amphibians. -

A comprehensive review of specimens attributed to that species from several localities was carried out, allowing the clear recognition of C. paleatus and also of a new species previously misidentified as C. paleatus, described herein. Corydoras paleatus can be distinguished from its congeners by presenting the following unique combination of features: perpendicularly directed serrations along entire posterior margin of the pectoral spine; three large black blotches along midline of flank; hyaline or black pectoral fin; and transversal black bars on caudal-fin lobes.Corydoras paleatus is known from the lower rio Paraná basin, coastal rivers from Southern Brazil and Uruguay and rio Uruguai basin. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by having the following unique combination of features: three large black blotches along midline of flank; three nasal pores; mesethmoid short; infraorbital 2 not in contact with compound pterotic; striated black spots from the snout tip to nuchal plate region; markedly rounded snout; and anterior portion of dorsal fin spotted. The new species is known from the upper rio Uruguai basin, from the rivers Canoas, do Peixe and Pelotas. -

This makes them relatively difficult to detect and sample. Consequently we have poor knowledge of parasite diversities, distributions and extinction. We evaluate our general understanding of parasite diversity and highlight the enormous bias in research on parasites such as helminths and arthropods that infect vertebrate hosts. We then focus on Myxozoa as an exemplary case for demonstrating uncharted parasite diversity. Myxozoans are a poorly recognised but speciose clade of endoparasitic cnidarians with complex life cycles that have radiated to exploit freshwater, marine and terrestrial hosts by adopting strategies convergent to those of parasitic protists. Myxozoans are estimated to represent some 20% of described cnidarian species – greatly outnumbering the combined species richness of scyphozoans, cubozoans, and staurozoans. We summarise limited understanding of myxozoan diversification and geographical distributions, and highlight gaps in knowledge and approaches for measuring myxozoan diversity. We close by reviewing methods and problems in estimating parasite extinction and concerns about extinction risks in view of the fundamental roles parasites play in ecosystem dynamics and in driving host evolutionary trajectories.
