Phoenix to Play Northside 2013-02-26 13:15 CET Phoenix to play NorthSide The last international headliner is Phoenix, who will be joined at the Danish festival by five international acts all of whom will play on the festival's new tent stage, Red Stage. In December, it was revealed that NorthSide will add a third stage, which has been named Red Stage. Now, we can together with the announcement of Phoenix start to reveal which bands you will be able to experience in the new tent. Daughter The long-awaited debut album from British group Daughter is released in March, and it follows three acclaimed ep releases. The trio has been called a cross between The xx and Cat Power, and we are very excited to be able to present them at NorthSide. Daughter will play NorthSide on Friday the 14th of June. Everything Everything The Manchester-quartet got their Danish breakthrough with the single "Kemosabe" from the acclaimed album "Arc", which is filled with energetic and catchy songs that blend pop, indie rock, and electronica. NME calls their performances "baffling, bizarre, beautiful, and bawdy", so there is definitely something to look forward to. Everything Everything will play NorthSide on Saturday the 15th of June. Imagine Dragons The Las Vegas-quartet has taken America by storm and impressed by reaching second place on the U.S. album chart with debut, "Night Visions". Sales have been helped by the hit single, "Radioactive", which was Danish P3's Unavoidable Track of the Week in late 2012, and their most played track in the last month. The band's popularity is constantly increasing worldwide, so it is four rising stars who are coming to Aarhus. Imagine Dragons will play NorthSide on Saturday the 15th of June. Michael Kiwanuka The acclaimed British songwriter topped the BBC's prestigious Sound of 2012-list after the release of his excellent debut album, "Home Again". Kiwanuka is a part of a songwriter tradition that draws on soul, jazz, and folk, but presents the songs in his own unique voice. That Kiwanuka also delivers live was evident in Copenhagen last year, when Soundvenue awarded six stars for a great concert. So we are very excited to welcome the excellent songwriter back to Denmark. Michael Kiwanuka will play NorthSide on Saturday the 15th of June. Tegan and Sara The Canadian sister duo has released records since 1999 featuring everything from dirty indie rock to crisp synthpop and along the way acquired a bunch of awards in their home country. Danish music magazine GAFFA called the duo's latest album "irresistibly catchy", so it very exciting to be able to present the duo's new style at a concert in the festival's new tent, Red Stage. Tegan and Sara will play NorthSide on Friday the 14th of June. In addition to the five acts added to programme for Red Stage, we are also very proud to present this year’s last international headliner. Phoenix The French group will release the long-awaited fifth album, "Bankrupt!", in April, which follows the successful album, "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix", which gave the group their big break. Phoenix has since 2000 been responsible for danceable and polished pop music that captivates in the same way as the biggest hits of the 80s. But when the music is served with a French touch it gets a modern and sophisticated style, and this is evident on the current single, "Entertainment". The band has not played in Denmark since 2009, so it is with great pleasure that we now add Phoenix as the last international headliner for NorthSide 2013. Phoenix plays at Northside Friday 14 June. The list of announced acts for NorthSide 2013 are as follows: Alt-J (∆), Arctic Monkeys, Band of Horses, Biffy Clyro, Bikstok Røgsystem, Bloc Party, Daughter, The Eclectic Moniker, Ellie Goulding, Everything Everything, The Flaming Lips, Fun., Gogol Bordello, Imagine Dragons, Kaizers Orchestra, Keane, Kings of Convenience, The Knife, Michael Kiwanuka, Modest Mouse, Nephew, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Phoenix, Portishead, Rasmus Walter, Shaka Loveless, Spleen United, Tegan and Sara, Trentemøller, and When Saints Go Machine. NorthSide 2013 can be experienced in Aarhus, Denmark on June 14th-16th. Tickets can be purchased through Billetlugen.dk. Visit NorthSide.dk or facebook.com/NorthSidefestival for more info on NorthSide 2013. NorthSide 2013 afvikles i Ådalen ved Aarhus i dagene 14.-16. juni. Billetter kan købes via Billetlugen.dk. • The Extra Day Blackwood, Algernon
The Extra Day Blackwood, Algernon Published: 1915 Categorie(s): Fiction, Fantasy, Horror Source: http://www.gutenberg.org 1 About Blackwood: Although Blackwood wrote a number of horror stories, his most typical work seeks less to frighten than to induce a sense of awe. Good examples are the novels The Centaur, which cli- maxes with a traveller's sight of a herd of the mythical creatures; and Julius LeVallon and its sequel The Bright Mes- senger, which deal with reincarnation and the possibility of a new, mystical evolution in human consciousness. His best stor- ies, such as those collected in the book Incredible Adventures, are masterpieces of atmosphere, construction and suggestion. Born in Shooter's Hill (today part of south-east London, but then part of north-west Kent) and educated at Wellington Col- lege, Algernon Blackwood had a varied career, farming in Canada, operating a hotel, and working as a newspaper report- er in New York City. In his late thirties, Blackwood moved back to England and started to write horror stories. He was very successful, writing 10 books of short stories and appearing on both radio and television to tell them. He also wrote fourteen novels and a number of plays, most of which were produced but not published. He was an avid lover of nature, and many of his stories reflect this. Blackwood wrote an autobiography of his early years, Episodes Before Thirty (1923). There is an ex- tensive critical analysis of Blackwood's work in Jack Sullivan's book Elegant Nightmares: The English Ghost Story From Le Fanu to Blackwood (1978).

  • LIANNE LA HAVAS Is Your Love Big Enough? 2013 Spring Headlining Tour
LIANNE LA HAVAS Is Your Love Big Enough? 2013 spring headlining tour Lianne La Havas Brightens Up Webster Hall In NYC -VIBE.com In about a month, your mom is going to call you up and ask, “Have you heard of that Lianne La Havas?” Your dentist’s office is going to have the British soul singer’s lovely debut album, “Is Your Love Big Enough?,” playing in the background as you’re getting your teeth cleaned. People are going to start obsessively posting about her on Facebook. Let’s hope La Havas’s career can survive her being the latest thing, because she’s also the real thing. -Washington Post - Review: Lianne La Havas at the 9:30 Club one of the hottest new talents of the moment. -Essence.com Despite the results a Google Image search of Lianne La Havas would breed -- all collared shirts and pristine button- ups -- and regardless of the soul singer's admitted affection for an "Annie Hall"-like wardrobe, she was every bit the opposite of that illustration when she took the stage at Webster Hall. In fact, dressed in a figure-hugging, bright orange maxi dress with revealing cutouts along her waist, La Havas was more the siren we'd only seen, until then, in her music videos (namely "Elusive" and "Gone," a recently released set of clips she dubbed a "two-part" film). But the duality wasn't off-putting. If anything, it's a recurrent theme in the London-born La Havas' life. She's a Greek-Jamaican guitarist and piano player who mixes folk and R&B (with lyrics fit for the blues).

  • Everything Everything - a Fever Dream
Everything Everything - A Fever Dream Across three albums, immense acclaim and intense adoration, the sound of Everything Everything has remained a volatile beast; a musical bucking bronco, their albums maximalist, frenetic, art-pop juxtapositions of R’n’B and melancholia and Afrobeat, of synths, guitars, falsetto. Critics have written of the frenzy of it, of the sheer sublime sweet sensory overload of it all. Their fourth album, A Fever Dream, is a quite different prospect: a calibration of chaos and control, the result of a curious desire for consistency. As guitarist Alex Robertshaw puts it: “Our records have been many styles rubbing up against each other, and for the first time I wanted to make a record that was cohesive sonically.” Midway through touring 2015’s Get To Heaven, Robertshaw found himself listening increasingly to the kind of electronic music he had loved as a teenager — early Warp Records releases, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada, relishing “the atmosphere and the attitude” of them. “I wanted to go back to that thing that first made me excited about music,” he says. “We’ve spent a lot of time going into that R’n’B and hip hop world — for an indie band it was a bit of an untouchable thing, and it was really fun to do and I think we captured it at its best with Kemosabe and Arc. But once you start doing that you kind of separate yourself.” Contemplating a fourth album, and after an extensive run of touring, Robertshaw felt a need to reconnect with the sounds that had first thrilled him and inspired him to begin making music.
