The World Television Premiere of "Nick Swardson: Seriously, Who Farted?" is an original COMEDY CENTRAL one-hour stand-up special and debuts Sunday, October 11 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. In this brand new special, Swardson lets loose on stage as he explains how he wants to screw with movie trailers and the time he lost all of his money in Vegas . to a spider monkey. In addition, he hits on topics such as figure skating, ninjas, confusing suicide attempts and, of course, cocky drunk girls, wasted party texts and alcohol poisoning. Preview clips are available on COMEDY CENTRAL's jokes.com. On Tuesday, October 13, "Nick Swardson: Seriously, Who Farted?" stand-up special will be released nationwide on DVD by COMEDY CENTRAL Home Entertainment, on CD by COMEDY CENTRAL Records and download-to-own including iTunes (pre-order Wednesday, September 30) and Amazon Video On Demand. DVD, released extended and uncensored by COMEDY CENTRAL Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment, features the following bonus materials: "28 Drinks Later," a trailer spoof of "28 Days Later," "Nick Swardson: Timeless Comedian," a retrospective of Nick's career throughout the decades, "A Very Terry Christmas," "Reno 911!'s" favorite roller-skating male prostitute sings the Christmas classics and "Opening Act: Beardo & Dirt Nasty" a musical performance. "Nick Swardson: Seriously, Who Farted?" CD, released by COMEDY CENTRAL Records, was recorded in April, 2009 in front of a packed house of rabid fans in Austin, TX. It features an extended version of the special as well as the track "A Very Terry Christmas," an ad for a fake and disturbing album from "Reno 911!'s" favorite roller skating male prostitute. "Nick Swardson: Seriously, Who Farted?" stand-up special was executive produced by John Irwin of John Irwin Entertainment. Swardson is the latest comedian to emerge as a triple threat: comedian, actor and writer/producer. He began his career in St. Paul/Minneapolis, then New York but it was the move to Los Angeles, when he first struck feature success in writing "Malibu's Most Wanted" starring Jamie Kennedy for Warner Brother Studios. Swardson then caught the attention of Happy Madison Productions. He quickly became a fixture at the company by writing or co-writing and producing such projects as "Grandma's Boy," "Benchwarmers" and co-producing "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" with Adam Sandler and Kevin James. His first CD and DVD release, "Party," on COMEDY CENTRAL Records (produced by Happy Madison) sold tremendously and the DVD has recently hit platinum status. This year, he completed his first starring role in the Columbia Pictures feature, "Born to Be a Star" which he co-wrote and produced with Adam Sandler and Allen Covert. Swardson's other film credits include "Art School Confidential" directed by Terry Zwigoff, "Blades of Glory" with Will Ferrell and "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" with Adam Sandler. In television, he had a recurring role as Terry in COMEDY CENTRAL's "Reno 911." The "Nick Swardson: Seriously, Who Farted?" stand-up special is sponsored by 5 Hour Energy. Carroll Date Professor of History Dr. Samuel Regalado Date Professor of History Dr. Marcy Rose Chvasta Date Professor of Communications © 2014 Kathleen Boone Chapman ALL RIGHTS RESERVED DEDICATION I am dedicating this work to my three dear friends: Ronda James, Candace Paulson, and Michele Sniegoski. Ronda’s encouragement and obedience to the Lord gave me what I needed to go back to school with significant health issues and so late in life. Candace, who graduated from Stanford “back in the olden days,” to quote our kids, inspired me to follow my dream and become all God wants me to be. Michele’s long struggle with terminal kidney disease motivated me to keep living in spite of my own health issues. We have laughed and cried together over many years, but all of you have given me strength to carry on. Sorry two of you made it to heaven before I could get this finished. I also want to give credit to my husband of forty years who has been a faithful breadwinner, proof-reader, and a paragon of patience. What more could any woman ask for? He has also put up with me yelling at my computer and cursing Bill Gates – A LOT.

  • Sketch Comedy and the Presidency
Satire & The State Satire & The State focuses on performance-based satire, most often seen in sketch comedy, from 1960 to the present, and explores how sketch comedy has shaped the way Americans view the president and themselves. Numerous sketch comedy portrayals of presidents have seeped into the American consciousness – Chevy Chase’s Gerald Ford, Dana Carvey’s George H.W. Bush, and Will Ferrell’s George W. Bush – all worked to shape the actual politician’s public persona. The book analyzes these sketches and many others, illustrating how comedy is at the heart of the health and function of American democracy. At its best, satire aimed at the presidency can work as a populist check on executive power, becoming one of the most important weapons for everyday Americans against tyranny and political corruption. At its worst, satire can reflect and promote racism, misogyny, and homophobia in America. Written for students of Theatre, Performance, Political Science, and Media Studies courses, as well as readers with an interest in political comedy, Satire & The State offers a deeper understanding of the relationship between comedy and the presidency, and the ways in which satire becomes a window into the culture, principles, and beliefs of a country. Matt Fotis is Associate Professor of Theatre at Albright College. He is the author of Long Form Improvisation and American Comedy: The Harold (2014), and coauthor of The Comedy Improv Handbook (2015). COMEDY CENTRAL's® "Nick Swardson's Pretend Time" Commences Production on Second Season Set to Premiere on Wednesday, October 5 at 10:30 p.m. NEW YORK, July 19, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Nick Swardson's twisted world of trust fund kitties, gay robots and the infamous "Garry Gaga" will return as COMEDY CENTRAL begins production on the second season of "Nick Swardson's Pretend Time," it was announced today by Kent Alterman, head of original programming and production, COMEDY CENTRAL. The second season of the hit sketch series will premiere on Wednesday, October 5 at 10:30 p.m. following the fall season premiere of "South Park." "We sent Nick off to therapy after season one, so we're confident he will be even more in touch with his dark, demented side for season two," said Alterman. "I am very excited to be back for a second season. COMEDY CENTRAL has been great and very supportive. I feel that now, more than ever, our country needs to see a cat in a wheelchair doing cocaine. As do the children," said Swardson. "Nick Swardson's Pretend Time" is a sketch show in which each sketch is filtered through the absurd point-of-view of stand-up comedian Nick Swardson. Swardson takes the viewer into his world through a series of sketches including the adventures of a wheelchair-bound cat as well as sketches inspired by the Internet sensation "Gay Robot," which follows the life of a gay robot and his frat boy friends. Swardson's world of make-believe incorporates every reach of the imagination - from monster doctors to a man's unique face transplant.
