LOCATION The name derives from the Old English word Stanas and means stones. This could be in reference to a boundary or perhaps the stones which marked the hundred meeting place.

The village is described in Magna Britannia 1806 as follows:-

‘Stone, in the hundred of and deanery of , lies nearly three miles west of Aylesbury, on the road to Thame. The manor was anciently in the family of Braci, afterwards in that of Whittingham. It has been since held for many years by the Lees with the adjoining manor of Hartwell, and is now the property of the Rev. Sir George Lee Bart. The parish church which was consecrated in 1273, retains some vestiges of the architecture of that period. The rectory was given by the Braci family to the priory of Oseney. By the act of parliament which passed for enclosing this parish in 1776, it appears that the Lees were entitled to the great tithes of Southwarp in Stone, and the earl of Chesterfield to those of the remainder of the parish. Allotments of land were then assigned to the impropriators and to the vicar, who was entitled to the tithes of hay. Sir George Lee is patron and incumbent of the vicarage’.

The village is now a mix of period and more modern housing with a pub/restaurants, shop and post office, petrol station and a quaint Gift Shop.

Aylesbury is about 2 miles with a train service to Marylebone and Haddenham and Thame Parkway 4 miles distant offers the same. Thame is around 7 miles with the M40 10 miles.

DESCRIPTION 19 Eythrope Road is a Victorian house dating from 1871 and in the middle of a row named ‘Eythrope Terrace’. The elevations are red brick beneath a slate roof with double glazed windows and down the side is a covered walkway providing access to the garden. Internally the accommodation is very nicely presented having been updated where necessary by the current owners. The front door opens into an open plan living and dining area that has stripped floorboards at the near end a working fireplace currently containing a gas fire. In the kitchen are cream units and solid wood worktops, the latter incorporat ing a one and a half bowl sink. There is a built in oven and induction hob with an extractor hood above and space and plumbing for a washing machine. The walls have ‘metro’ style tiling, the floor is also tiled and this flooring continues on into the lobby and bathroom. Said lobby has a door to outside and a recess for a fridge/freezer. The bathroom was refitted by the vendors and has a white suite of wc, wash basin and a panelled bath. The furniture is chrome and over the bath are taps with a telephone type hand held shower. Again there is ‘metro’ tiling and the room has downlighting and a heated towel rail. Upstairs on the landing is a little gallery and a staircase up to the loft room. The main bedroom is a good double and has an ensuite equipped with a wc, wash basin and a tiled cubicle with a ‘Mira’ shower. The second bedroom is a decent single and has wardrobes that have mirrored doors. The loft is another double in size having a dormer window and it has under eaves storage cupboards.

OUTSIDE At the front is a block paved driveway. The rear garden is made up of gravelling, a square of faux grass and a patio. There is a patch hardstanding underneath a pergola and adjacent to that a timber shed.
