ESTUDO DE SLAMMING EM CATAMARÃ DE FIBRA DE VIDRO Hernán Gustavo Ruiz Abril/2013 Orientador: Ilson Paranhos Pasqualino Programa: Engenharia Oceânica O presente trabalho visa a estudar a interação fluido-estrutura incorporada no pacote comercial Abaqus™ que utiliza o Método dos Elementos Finitos (MEF) onde a estrutura é descrita segundo uma formulação lagrangeana imersa parcialmente ou completamente em uma malha não estruturada e fixa no espaço que contem o fluido em seu estado inicial, intermediário e final onde o escoamento é captado através do método do volume de fluido (VOF) e a superfície livre é reconstruída a cada passo do tempo através de uma aproximação linear por trechos (PLIC). O algoritmo contato por penalidade que controla o acoplamento entre a malha euleriana e lagrangeana (CEL) é analisado no problema de impacto de estruturas bidimensionais e rígidas em superfícies de fluido inicialmente em repouso realizando um estudo paramétrico da interface fluido- estrutura cujas variáveis associadas ao comportamento normal são calibradas segundo resultados de testes experimentais e equações analíticas propostas na literatura especializada. Considera-se a hidroelasticidade no impacto de estruturas de ligação de cascos de catamarãs e um estudo de caso em que as pressões, obtidas pelo presente método explícito, são comparadas às pressões admissionais propostas por normas de sociedades classificadoras. vi Abstract of Dissertation presented to COPPE/UFRJ as a partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science (M.Sc.) STUDY OF SLAMMING ON FIBERGLASS CATAMARAN Hernán Gustavo Ruiz April/2013 Advisor: Ilson Paranhos Pasqualino Department: Ocean Engineering The focus of this work aims to the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) study through Abaqus™ commercial software of Finite Element Method (FEM) where a Lagrangian formulation is used to describe a partially or fulfill immersed structure in a non- structured spatially-fixed Eulerian mesh whose inside contains the initial, intermediate and final state flux of fluid modeled through the Volume-of-Fluid (VOF) Method and where the free-surface is tracked by a Piecewise Linear Interface Calculation (PLIC) in each timestep. The Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) mesh governed by the penalty contact algorithm is studied in a rigid two-dimensional structure impacting on a free- surface initially at rest performing a parametric study of the normal, tangential and damping behavior where the variables are calibrated with experimental tests and proposed analytical equations. Wetdeck slamming hydroelasticity is considered beyond one case study where CEL and design pressure given by Society Classification Rules are compared. vii SUMÁRIO 1. Minor upgrades have been done to the interior and systems, but her basic Sedan Cruiser design is retained. Home Port is Decatur Island where the owner’s cabin is, and her covered moorage in Portage Bay helps keep her preserved.. ALOHA A 40’ 1962 Owens Tahitian, Aloha was sold new in Seattle, mooring at the Seattle Yacht Club for 39 years, 1962- 2001.

In late 1931, with a view of owner Henry Foss to hold Foss workmen on the job as much as possible during the depression, work was begun on the only yacht listed on the Foss History web site to be built by the Foss Tug and Launch Company works at Tacoma. When other work was a bit slack, work on THEA was resumed, thus assisting the owner in keeping the company’s well organized crew employed. Her lines were drawn by G.E. Nyman of Tacoma and her construction was under the supervision of Linas Berg. Hollow Tobin bronze wing shaped rudder and stream-line designed air-driven winch as well as all outer gear were cast by Tacoma Brass Company and finished by Fred Dravis of Hicks and Bull Company, Tacoma. All are still with the boat and functioning well. MITLITE (THEA FOSS) was originally powered with a 66hp Washington full Diesel and she was also equipped with an Atlas Imperial lighting outfit with a belt driven Westinghouse 32 volt generator on the main engine.

Obviously, he had not much time to work on his journal after that. So what we have here in Souvenirs 3 is his "raw" Missionary Journal (1849-1854) without subtraction or addition.

    CSW12 Complete Variants David Sutton Introduction This document seeks to provide a comprehensive tabulation of variant spelling forms in CSW12, for words up to nine letters in length. It can be viewed as a big brother to 'CSW12 New Variants', which dealt only with new variants introduced in CSW12: that is to say, new words which were simply variant forms of words already existing in CSW7. Again, the idea is to ease at least marginally the task of word learning by grouping the words into 'variant spelling' sets. The following provisos should be noticed. only root forms are listed. It can normally be taken for granted that inflections follow suit. I have not sought to include inflectional variants such as LABELED/LABELLED. only root forms with nine or fewer letters are included, though if these have variant spellings with more than nine letters, those are shown. the large number of –ISE/-IZE variants are omitted. Since CSW7 it can overhelmingly be assumed that any verb ending in –ISE has a corresponding –IZE form; there are exceptions like ADVISE, CHASTISE, DESPISE and FRANCHISE but few that are likely to seduce one into error. it must be remembered that some variants may possess part of speech properties not possessed by other variants of that form. For example, in the case of ALARM/ALARUM/LARUM ALARM and ALARUM are both noun and verb, but LARUM is noun only. Similarly, in the case of ALATE/ALATED, ALATE is both adjective and noun and so can take an –S, but ALATED is adjective only.
