Arrival Guide ARRIVAL GUIDE Dear Participants, Looking forward to seeing everyone in Macau soon and so wanted to provide some information about the visit and conference sessions. The conference will be held from 27th to 29th, November, at the University of Macau. AIEMCA 2018 Preparation Committee. Agenda* and Venue This is a provisional agenda. The final agenda will be included in the conference book in print. Please consider the environment before printing. INFORMATION PACKAGE INFORMATION PACKAGE Arrival - Transportation You may get to Macau in the following three ways: 1) From Hong Kong Airport; 2) From Macau Airport; 3) From Hong Kong City; 1. Go from Hong Kong Airport Arriving at Hong Kong Airport and getting to Macau by the Ferry. Hong Kong Airport - Get off the plane and head towards the Transit Lounge and ‘Macau and Mainland Ferries’. (Don’t go through immigration which is on your left as you come into the transit lounge.) - If you have hold luggage, there is no need to pick it up. (When you buy a ferry ticket, you should show your airplane boarding check to the staff and he or she will transfer your Checked Baggage to the ferry you’ll board) - In the Transit Lounge you can buy ferry tickets (if you can’t see the ticket counter anyone will direct you). You want the ferries at the further end of the counter towards the small cafe rather than the first few counters counter which is to China and the line is usually busy. - At the ferry ticket counter. There are two ferry companies that go to Macau. Turbo Jet (red) at Cotai Water Jet (blue) at 11:00, 13:15, 17:00, 22:00 12:15, 14:15, 16:15, 19:00, 21:00 INFORMATION PACKAGE - Buy your ticket (you cannot purchase the ticket before arriving in Hong Kong) and if you have Hold luggage then give them the luggage receipt and they will get it and put it on the ferry and you can collect it when you get to Macau. - There are two classes of Tickets. Standard and Superclass. - The difference is not that much in cost. Super class you get to go upstairs and have nicer seats and a small snack meal. The main benefit of this class is that you get to get off the ferry first – this can be a good thing if the ferry is busy as you get to the immigration desks in Macau before the rest of the passengers. - There are two ferry ports in Macau – ‘Macau (Outer Harbour) and Macau (Taipa)’ Either of which is fine. After arrival, go through immigration (visa on arrival) and then collect your luggage. 2. From Macau Airport Go through immigration (visa on arrival) and then collect your luggage, taxi stand is at the arrival level. 3. From Hong Kong City There are frequent ferry services between Hong Kong and Macau. • When Is the Best Time to Go to Hong Kong?
Page 1 of 98 Chris’ Copyrights @ 2011 When Is The Best Time To Go To Hong Kong? Winter Season (December - March) is the most relaxing and comfortable time to go to Hong Kong but besides the weather, there's little else to do since the "Sale Season" occurs during Summer. There are some sales during Christmas & Chinese New Year but 90% of the clothes are for winter. Hong Kong can get very foggy during winter, as such, visit to the Peak is a hit-or-miss affair. A foggy bird's eye view of HK isn't really nice. Summer Season (May - October) is similar to Manila's weather, very hot but moving around in Hong Kong can get extra uncomfortable because of the high humidity which gives the "sticky" feeling. Hong Kong's rainy season also falls on their summer, July & August has the highest rainfall count and the typhoons also arrive in these months. The Sale / Shopping Festival is from the start of July to the start of September. If the sky is clear, the view from the Peak is great. Avoid going to Hong Kong when there are large-scale exhibitions or ongoing tournaments like the Hong Kong Sevens Rugby Tournament because hotel prices will be significantly higher. CUSTOMS & DUTY FREE ALLOWANCES & RESTRICTIONS • Currency - No restrictions • Tobacco - 19 cigarettes or 1 cigar or 25 grams of other manufactured tobacco • Liquor - 1 bottle of wine or spirits • Perfume - 60ml of perfume & 250 ml of eau de toilette • Cameras - No restrictions • Film - Reasonable for personal use • Gifts - Reasonable amount • Agricultural Items - Refer to consulate Note: • If arriving from Macau, duty-free imports for Macau residents are limited to half the above cigarette, cigar & tobacco allowance • Aircraft crew & passengers in direct transit via Hong Kong are limited to 20 cigarettes or 57 grams of pipe tobacco.

The discussion begins with the outline of the history of the Macanese bilingualism. The author then examines the crucial distinction between the language in the law and the law in the language. By analogy to European Community and other bilingual legal systems, this article identies the characteristic of Macanese mulitlingualism. This article concludes with suggestions about a new approach and the role of universities in resolving the matter. I. INTRODUCTION My experience as a comparatist in Macau reminds me of the “accommodation method” rooted in the Jesuit missionary activity, an activity aimed at diffusing Christianity all over the world and addressing complex religious and cultural challenges. Matteo Ricci used to adapt himself (“accomodare” 1 ) to the Chinese context, dressing as a Confucian monk, learning Chinese language and philosophy and overall finding similarities and harmonies in classical Chinese texts with Christian teachings.
