The volunteers who manage and run the Gresford and District Library (GDCL) want to get the word out we are open and offer the same services now as before the library’s brief closure in March 2014.

Although our visitor numbers have steadily increased we are pretty sure that there are still some people out there who used to use the library who are not aware that we are open again or, perhaps, do not realise that we are still linked in to the WCBC Library Service and offer the same services now as before the library’s closure March to May 2014. WCBC have been very helpful in maintaining links with GDCL and anyone who is a member of the library in Gresford is a member of all the libraries, just like before. If you have borrowed books from another library you can bring them to GDCL and we can return them for you because the Wrexham Library van still calls each week. Similarly, if you want to request a book from another Wrexham library, GDCL can do this for you and it will be delivered to Gresford on the van, usually the following Tuesday. Through GDCL you still have access to the more than one million books and other media items which WCBC Library Service owns.

We have three computers for public use - all connected to the internet - and these all carry the very popular Ancestry website which you can access free of charge in Gresford just as you could before. We are currently looking into the possibility of establishing GDCL as a wifi hotspot.

We’ve improved the look of the building and have made the Children’s Library more attractive and welcoming. In 2015 we hope to be able to raise the money to refurbish this properly. Starting in February we will be holding Storytime for the Under 6’s on the first Saturday of every month; we will also be running a craft activity alongside the storytelling which will be suitable for older children. We really want parents to think of GDCL as a fun destination for their children and to bring them along – we love to see them!

GDCL is entering 2015 with strong support from the village communities of Gresford, and . This support is shown by the steadily increasing visitor numbers, new members joining the library and also by the very generous financial contributions made through the Friends of GDCL sponsorship scheme and the various fundraising events we have held.

The Community Council for Gresford and Marford has been key in underwriting our 2014-15 running costs and have budgeted to support GDCL again in 2015-16. We have also asked Rossett Community Council to show its support for keeping the library open by contributing to running costs – we are waiting to hear if our application has been successful.

We’re open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 2-5pm, Fridays 10-5pm and Saturdays 10-1pm – please call in and see what we have to offer and help to keep your library open.
