23 Tips on disaster and crime prevention

Disaster prevention

All common spaces in the Kasumigaseki Building are non-smoking. Dispose of cigarette butts in the specially designated capped containers. Please confirm that the cigarette butts are extinguished when disposing of them. Do not dispose of cigarette butts together with other trash as a fire may result. Fixtures and furniture shall, in principal, be made from either flame resistant material or steel. Bringing flammable substances or explosive materials into the building is strictly prohibited, irrespective of the quantity. Kerosene stoves and electric heaters must not be used in the tenant rooms. To prevent heat from being generated and to minimize the risk of fire, excessive cabling, such as starburst connections, is prohibited. Do not dispose of trash in places other than the designated areas as it may present a suspicious fire risk. Do not place objects in the common areas, as they may block evacuation routes or impede firefighting activities. Large fixtures and items of furniture should be fastened to the floor or to the wall to prevent them from falling in the event of an earthquake. Remember to consult with the Kasumigaseki Building Service Center prior to any reinforcement work, as there is the risk that the reinforcement work may damage the building. Maintain an emergency kit of portable lighting devices, a radio, helmets, gloves, a first-aid kit and food reserves at all times. Discuss the procedures to be adopted in the case of employees who will experience difficulty in returning home in the event of an earthquake.

Crime prevention

Be sure to lock your room when leaving it unattended, no matter for how short a period. If you encounter a suspicious person or a high-pressure salesperson, please contact the Disaster Control Center. If you come across suspicious objects, such as cardboard boxes, bags or unidentified packages, do not touch them. Immediately contact the Disaster Control Center instead. Thieves may take on the appearance of a visitor to a tenant room. Be sure to lock the change rooms and locker rooms. Do not leave cash or valuables in desk drawers. The building management does not accept responsibility for the loss of any cash or valuables. Each person must take responsibility for such items.
