Aradia is a complex and controversial figure who often seems to have one foot in history and another in mythology. In one, Aradia rewards a poor woman for her hospitality; in another, she helps a maiden find love, and in the final story, Aradia finds love herself and so brings a kingdom into balance and harmony. The cards are slightly larger-than-average, and printed on very glossy stock. I was slightly nervous that the large size compared to other decks in my collection — which really is a pro and not a con, because it showcases the artwork beautifully — combined with the glossy finish would make the deck slippery and hard to shuffle, especially The Gospel of Aradia you have smaller-than-average hands like I do. However, I quickly found that the opposite was true. This deck shuffles like a dream! But on the other hand, with only three characters appearing throughout 34 cards, the deck does lack a high degree of diversity. Its energy, while inspiring and potent, skews very feminine. The Gospel of Aradia was a bad fit and that position would have made me unhappy, had I been offered it. The Gospel of Aradia concern is that similar sentiments of following my path, creating my own projects and living on my own terms carried over into my second career reading. A writer friend of mine, knowing I was testing out the deck for review, asked for a reading related to her manuscript. She had been struggling with where to The Gospel of Aradia her first novel after it had gone through a number of major changes and wanted to know what her inciting incident should be. Working with this deck was a highly intuitive process. I was able to develop an interpretation from the cards themselves before cross referencing the guidebook. In most cases what I came up with was relatively close to the meanings outlined in the book, if not more meaningful where the two diverged. Even on its own, the guide gives you plenty to work with. The Gospel of Aradia is a well thought out deck with wide appeal. Its intuitive nature and comprehensive guidebook make it an accessible first deck for beginners, while the packaging makes it The Gospel of Aradia attractive choice for collectors. I’m wondering if you could begin by giving us some background about yourself. Where were you born and raised, and when were you born? Ruth B. I was born in 1954 in Los Angeles. Actually, second generation Angelina. And lived pretty much most of my life in California until relocating to the Midwest in 2000. So my family was very involved in . were some of the first founding families in the Reconstructionist movement of Judaism, which is a fourth branch of Judaism—you know, Orthodox, Conservative, Reformed, and then Reconstructionism. Now there’s also Renewal, and there’s other movements. But Reconstructionism plays actually a big part in my personal development spiritually, as well as having, setting a context for me to later understand the evolution of Goddess religion and spirituality. Because a Reconstructionist perspective, as it applies to Judaism, is a way of understanding the Jewish people as they move through time. And that we constantly have to look at the customs and the traditions and practices and philosophies and make them relevant to the time that we’re living. So we’re talking about Judaism as an evolving religious civilization.

There is a great deal of debate concerning this matter, which does not look to be reconciled any time soon, and many, scholars included, are wont to use these terms interchangeably. It does not help that in many cases there is no single specific definition accepted by both groups, as in the case of Wicca; or that the official dictionary definition is outdated and reflects a quite clearly Christian bias. For example, the Oxford English Dictionary defines a ‘pagan’ as “heathen; unenlightened or irreligious”. One can see immediately how offensive, not to mention inaccurate, such a description would seem to pagans, who are neither unenlightened nor irreligious. In general, one must look at the context in which the word is used to determine its meaning.

    A Basic Format for Spellcasting and Ritual This is my generic format for spellcasting and for rituals. It's set up for one person, but could be easily adapted for use in a group setting (for instance, you'd make the circle larger, and would say "WE thank the Goddess" rather than "I thank the Goddess"). Of course, you can change it as you see fit; nothing is cast in stone. It borrows heavily from the writings of Silver RavenWolf, Gerina Dunwich, and Starhawk. A word of warning: one writer has said that the way magick works is by making everything fall apart. The Deities have a sense of humor. Don't be surprised if you get what you ask for ... but in an unusual container. Before you do anything else, write out a Statement of Purpose. Make a list of everything that you want to ask for: guidance about your job, healing for a friend's daughter, success in some upcoming endeavor, healing of emotional hurts, accuracy in divination, strength to put up with the jerk you work with at your office, wisdom to make a special decision. This is the "meat" of the session. Be "generally specific," i.e., define the qualities of what you want but leave yourself open as to HOW it will manifest. Remember that you're not giving a grocery list to the deities; you're asking for their help. Of course, you don't even have to ASK for anything; you can circle to celebrate a Sabbat, or just to "hook up" with the Other Side.

Too basic a talk and you bore your audience and leave them with little new, too detailed you risk confusion. It is a case of being damned if you do or if you don’t. I decided to take the Qabalistic Tree of Life as the theme of my talk, and before I even started I had people saying that other talks on the subject had left them confused and bewildered, some saying they had even considered staying home. For me Qabalah has been the rock on which my understanding of the esoteric has been built. When I first encountered it and all its literature I must admit I too was bewildered but underlying the verdant morass of verbiage I found something elegant and beautiful. This led me to thinking about the way esoteric convention has sought to confuse and mislead the uninitiated seeker. Crowley’s writings were often deliberately wrong, with him saying those who knew would understand. It has been suggested that this was his way of being able to publish with a clear conscience, in the belief that he was not breaking the oath of his initiation. Thankfully for us Dion Fortune saw no such need, and I am with her on this.

Leland‘s aim was to find relics of the ancient religion of the Etruscans and the ancient Romans among the peasants and shepherds living in the upper regions of Apennine, between Florence and Bologna. Collections of legends and tales of the local inhabitants of Apennine published by Ch. G. Leland in the 1890s, became the primary sources which the current representatives of the Wicca religious movement refer to. Leland‘s ethnographic activities can be described as quite controversial, and have found very little response not only in the Italy at the time, but also in the American academic space. The contribution does not attempt to give Wicca followers any answer to the question if the current Wicca may still refer to Leland‘s work or not, but wants to provide a critical view of his personage and his method of collecting data. Fewer scholars have focused on the relatively young Neo-Pagan religious movement. “Neo-Pagan,” explains Helen Berger in Voices from the Pagan Census (2003), “is an umbrella term covering sects of a new religious movement, the largest and most important form of which is…Wicca” (Berger et al. 2003: 1). This thesis examines the relationship between practice and ideology by analyzing the material culture of Wiccan altars as used by Wiccans in Central Florida, USA.
