Abstract he avocado belongs to the genus Persea, which is one of the most controversial genera of the Lauraceae family, since the relationships within the subgenus Persea are not clear T and only recognized two species, Persea americana and Persea schiedeana. Its relationship with the subgenus Eriodaphne is also complex and there is a debate as to whether it is an independent genus. For this reason, the study aims to analyze the phylogenetic relationships within the genus Persea, with an emphasis on the subgenus Persea, using maximum parsimony and bayesian inference with the sequence of eight different fragments from nuclear, chloroplast and mitochondrial DNA. Sequences of the chloroplast ndhF, rbcL, matK, rpoC, trnH- psbA; mitochondria atp4 and cox3 and nuclear 18S rRNA were used. Fourteen fixed mutations were found in species of the subgenus Eriodaphne. -

Renner3 BIOGEOGRAPHY OF LAURACEAE: EVIDENCE FROM THE CHLOROPLAST AND NUCLEAR GENOMES1 ABSTRACT Phylogenetic relationships among 122 species of Lauraceae representing 44 of the 55 currentlyrecognized genera are inferredfrom sequence variation in the chloroplast and nuclear genomes. The trnL-trnF,trnT-trnL, psbA-trnH, and rpll6 regions of cpDNA, and the 5' end of 26S rDNA resolved major lineages, while the ITS/5.8S region of rDNA resolved a large terminal lade. The phylogenetic estimate is used to assess morphology-based views of relationships and, with a temporal dimension added, to reconstructthe biogeographic historyof the family.Results suggest Lauraceae radiated when trans-Tethyeanmigration was relatively easy, and basal lineages are established on either Gondwanan or Laurasian terrains by the Late Cretaceous. Most genera with Gondwanan histories place in Cryptocaryeae, but a small group of South American genera, the Chlorocardium-Mezilauruls lade, represent a separate Gondwanan lineage. Caryodaphnopsis and Neocinnamomum may be the only extant representatives of the ancient Lauraceae flora docu- mented in Mid- to Late Cretaceous Laurasian strata. Remaining genera place in a terminal Perseeae-Laureae lade that radiated in Early Eocene Laurasia. Therein, non-cupulate genera associate as the Persea group, and cupuliferous genera sort to Laureae of most classifications or Cinnamomeae sensu Kostermans. Laureae are Laurasian relicts in Asia. Fabaceae is of great ethnobotanical importance in indigenous and urban communities throughout the world. This work presents a revision of the use of Fabaceae as a food and/or medicinal resource in Argentine-Chilean Patagonia. It is based on a bibliographical analysis of 27 ethnobotanical sources and catalogues of regional flora. Approximately 234 wild species grow in Patagonia, mainly (60%) in arid environments, whilst the remainder belong to Sub-Antarctic forest. It was found that 12.8% (30 species), mainly woody, conspicuous plants, are collected for food or medicines. Most of the species used grow in arid environments. Cultivation and purchase/barter enrich the Fabaceae offer, bringing it up to a total of 63 species. The richness of native and exotic species, and the existence of multiple strategies for obtaining these plants, indicates hybridization of knowledge and practices. -

De La Identidad De Las Sophora Sp
De la identidad de las Sophora sp. Sección Edwardsia presentes en Chile. Por : Roberto Castillo Resumen: En Chile, el género Sophora sección Edwardsia presenta 5 especies nativas, de las cuales, una de ellas se encuentra extinta en naturaleza (Sophora toromiro Phil.), además, existe una especie introducida, Sophora microphylla Ait., el objeto del presente trabajo, es ser una herramienta rápida de catálogo, debido a la continua confusión, en su identificación. Introducción: La labor de identificar las especies de leguminosas, es complejo, debido principalmente a la ausencia de barreras reproductivas, hecho documentado para el género Sophora sección Edwardsia en Heenan P. Texto donde se describe la existencia de 6 híbridos naturales para Nueva Zelanda. En Chile, la especiación del género, se produjo por barreras geográficas claras y nichos ecológicos distintos. Las 2 especies continentales, se adaptaron a nichos ecológicos distintos, una, Sophora macrocarpa, se adaptó a laderas soleadas de cerros, lechos de esteros y suelos degradados, la otra, Sophora cassioides se adaptó a ambientes boscosos, especialmente en quebradas húmedas y sombrías de la Cordillera de la Costa. Donde ambas coinciden en distribución, ocurre la hibridación. La que fue descrita primeramente por DONOSO, C. 1974. Un híbrido entre Sophora macrocarpa y Sophora microphylla. Boletín Técnico. Fac. PEÑA and RODRIGO PIZARRO1 (received: July 04, 2007; accepted: October 14, 2010) ABSTRACT – (Multivariate analysis of pollen frequency of the native species Escallonia pulverulenta (Saxifragaceae) in Chilean honeys). The aim of this work was the identification of geographic zones suitable for the production of honeys in which pollen grains of Escallonia pulverulenta (Ruiz & Pav.) Pers. (Saxifragaceae) can be detected. The analysis of botanical origin of 240 honey samples produced between La Serena and Puerto Mont (the IV and X Administrative Regions of Chile), allowed the detection of pollen grains of E. pulverulenta in 46 Chilean honeys. The geographic distribution of the honeys studied is presented together with their affinities, through factor analysis and frequency tables. The study was based on the presence of E. pulverulenta pollen. Escallonia pulverulenta pollen percentages oscillated between 0.24% and 78.5%. Seventeen of the studied samples were designated as unifloral –i.e. samples showing more than 45% pollen of a determined plant species. Two of these corresponded to E. pulverulenta (corontillo, madroño or barraco) honeys. The remaining unifloral honeys correspond to 8 samples of Lotus uliginosus Schkuhr (birdsfoot trefoil), 2 samples of Aristotelia chilensis (Molina) Stuntz (maqui) and 1 sample of Escallonia rubra (Ruiz & Pav.) Pers. (siete camisas), Eucryphia cordifolia Cav. (ulmo or muemo), Weinmannia trichosperma Cav. (tineo), Rubus ulmifolius Schott (blackberry) and Brassica rapa L. (turnip).
