BBC’s Mastermind and Celebrity Mastermind Invitation To Tender (ITT) 10 September 2018 Production of Mastermind and Celebrity Mastermind Contract for 2 years commencing with delivery in July 2019 ITT SUMMARY1 The BBC is inviting producers to tender for the production of Mastermind and Celebrity Mastermind. Mastermind and Celebrity Mastermind are long-running, successful BBC series at the heart of the BBC Two and BBC One schedules. The contract to produce Mastermind and Celebrity Mastermind is offered on a work-for-hire basis and all IP remains with the BBC. The contract, including 31 episodes of Mastermind and 10 episodes of Celebrity Mastermind per year, is for 2 years commencing with delivery in July 2019. John Humphrys will continue to present both shows. The current tariff for Mastermind and Celebrity Mastermind is an average of £36,0412 per episode or £2,955,362 for both series across the 2 years, funded by the BBC public service. The Production must remain Out of London, with a preference for one of the BBC’s centres for quiz content in Salford, Scotland or Northern Ireland. The winners of the SAUSIES awards, sponsored by Porky Whites - the great tasting British sausage brand since 1935 - have been announced today (Thursday 25 October 2018) and reveal which celebrities the nation think are the epitome of great taste and those who leave a bad taste in their mouths. Hundreds of online votes* were cast to determine the celebrity winners in thirteen hotly contested categories from TV and Sport to Radio and Politics. Voters were asked to consider celebrities’ looks, style, personality and behaviour. And the winners are... Tastiest TV duo – ITV’s This Morning Phillip Schofield & Holly Willoughby Phil and Holly were voted the Tastiest TV duo with nearly half of all votes cast. They came out on top ahead of Strictly’s Tess and Claudia and Bake Off’s Sandi and Noel. “Phil and Holly have such great chemistry and go together like sausages and mash” said one voter. Tastiest male celebrity – Tom Hardy Tom Hardy, the former model and now actor and film producer scooped the tastiest male award. “He’s not only extremely good looking he’s an amazing actor and an animal lover too” said another voter. THE HISTORY OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF BRITISH SATELLITE BROADCASTING POLICY, 1977-1992 Windsor John Holden —......., Submitted in accordance with the requirements for the degree of PhD University of Leeds, Institute of Communications Studies July, 1998 The candidate confirms that the work submitted is his own and that appropriate credit has been given where reference has been made to the work of others ABSTRACT This thesis traces the development of British satellite broadcasting policy, from the early proposals drawn up by the Home Office following the UK's allocation of five direct broadcast by satellite (DBS) frequencies at the 1977 World Administrative Radio Conference (WARC), through the successive, abortive DBS initiatives of the BBC and the "Club of 21", to the short-lived service provided by British Satellite Broadcasting (BSB). It also details at length the history of Sky Television, an organisation that operated beyond the parameters of existing legislation, which successfully competed (and merged) with BSB, and which shaped the way in which policy was developed. It contends that throughout the 1980s satellite broadcasting policy ceased to drive and became driven, and that the failure of policy-making in this time can be ascribed to conflict on ideological, governmental and organisational levels. Under the terms of our new Charter, we are now required to publish an annual report for each financial year from the Remuneration Committee with the names of all senior executives of the BBC paid more than £150,000 from licence fee revenue in a financial year. Driving efficiency at the BBC To deliver quality content for the Licence Fee payer Foreword November 2014 In February 2014, Tony Hall made a speech to the Oxford Media Convention where he argued that although the BBC had done much to become efficient, we must never stop looking for ways to do more. At the same time, Tony asked me to carry out an efficiency review, looking both at the BBC’s record and where we can go further to deliver value for money for Licence Fee payers. Having completed this review, I am immensely proud of the range, depth and quality of the BBC’s content and services. I see very clearly the significant financial challenges the BBC has faced and continues to face, the extent of change taking place across all parts of the BBC and the scale of achievement in doing more for less. Over the last 20 years the BBC has significantly increased the number of services it provides to Licence Fee payers for the same price in real terms. In 2010 the Licence Fee was held flat at £145.50 for six years and the BBC took on new annual funding obligations which build up to £500 million (13 per cent of the Licence Fee) by April 2014. Funding these obligations, absorbing inflation and finding the investment needed to stay relevant to audiences in the digital world requires an unprecedented focus on efficiency. Since the start of the current Charter, BBC staff have delivered annual savings of £1.1 billion and we are on track to deliver £1.5 billion by 2016/17.
