On another note, this month sees the opening of yet another section in our newspaper: fashion! It was high time that this subject was written about because high- schoolers always give great importance to each other’s appearance It is a way for them to identify to a certain group and make friends accordingly. Hairstyles are also a big topic, even among boys now. This month, teenagers with curly hair will finally what to do with it! This month, we had a survey to know the students’ opinion about Donald TRUMP and his decision to build a wall between the USA and Mexico. On 60 votes, no one agreed with the project, and as for the opinion on the man, there are different points of view. Here a few that were expressed: “In my opinion , Donald TRUMP is not the good person to be the president of the United States, he is not a serious man and we can see that with his past, his life on social networks, I think he is better just as a businessman”, Laura. “To begin with, I would like to say, what a disappointment. I don’t understand why a person like him can be loved by the American population, he has done terrible things, he acts with hate towards others and for me, he doesn’t have what it takes to be a leader”, Maxime. “It’s simple to say he is not a good person, but I think Donald TRUMP as a president can change a lot of things in good. Indeed, he is not an angel, but he is a powerful man who knows the political life, he can give to the USA the keys to become a better country”, Jordan. N.M. SOCIETY 3 What is Braille? When you have good eyes, reading is simple, you open a book and read the printed words. But if you are blind or visually impaired, how do you do? You read in Braille. This writing was invented by a French man, Louis Braille in 1825. He had been blind since he was a child, following an accident. Braille is a relief writing system that allows reading with the fingers. Each Braille cell is made with 6 raised dots that can be combined in 63 different ways to achieve complete writing. This alphabet has been adapted to many languages around the world, there is the Braille World Council, and every year on January 4th, it is a day dedicated to the blind and visually impaired. To learn how to read, blind or partially sighted children develop a great sense of touch. Little by little, they know how to use their two hands and their ten fingers to read very quickly. With the advent of computers, softwares have been created to make life easier for the visually impaired. There is a software that translates what’s said in a microphone directly in Braille. Then you can print the text, with a special printer, to read it with your fingers. There are also computer keyboards in Braille. It’s convenient! There are Braille books about many subjects, maths, history, cooking, literature and even children's books. Braille can be found on remotes or medicine boxes. It’s good, the 45 million blind people in the world must be able, in spite of their handicap, to live almost like others. Braille computer keyboard A.D. FASHION 4 Hype Streetwear Streetwear, which can be translated as "what we wear on the street", sometimes called skatewear, is a fashion style that appeared in the 1980s. What is the hype? According to labellebasket, Hype is a hazy artistic area in which the consumer is attracted by brands according to the ratings and the rarity of products it distributes. People who are addicted to the hype are considered as a “hypebeast”. And the streetwear? What is it? According to Urban-hype, concepts like life and fashion can only be defined by those who live and wear them. The best definition of the word "live" can simply be represented by all those who live it. Through the eyes, the smiles, their laughter and their sorrows. Life must be told by those who live it to the fullest. It's the same for urban fashion. Beyond the explanation or the probable definition of streetwear fashion, it cannot be better defined than by those who wear it. The observation territory is big, very big. Despite a large population, we can dissociate a few types and sub types of people. Everybody, young people to old people, can wear this fashion which is rising. The streetwear lifestyle automatically influences the outfit worn. Among the hip hop dancers, streetwear can be worn for an outfit that will make floor dancing easier, requiring much more than physical fitness. The comfort of its loose clothing will give a significant margin of progress for any ambition in this discipline. Hip-hop singers appreciate streetwear fashion more than haute couture, as they like to say in their songs. Notably because it represents their free state of mind, far from the simple clichés of wealth that the media give us. The dream is also an important factor in this modern fable and clothing. Nobody wears anything for nothing and urban fashion knows From: https://www.dhgate.com/store/product/hip-hop- it all too well. streetwear-harajuku-skate-kpop-clothes/389245708.html FASHION 5 Examples Supreme is a perfect example of a marketing strategy that may seem basic enough and minimalist but whose operation is furiously effective. More concretely, the products distributed by the brand are in demand so much that we have never seen one on sale. And for good reason, the demand around this brand is so strong that it is, in our eyes, sacred. People with a T-shirt or a cap Supreme appear in the eyes of others as having the street-wear look. If we can believe that the goal of a clothing producer is to sell as many items as possible, it is not their policy. All their pieces are offered in very limited editions. Last year, they announced the release of a pair of Nike x Supreme available on their site and in a few seconds, we could not get our hands on it. Kanye West helped the goal of Adidas to be hype, by creating a line of sneakers, the Yeezy, (see image) more sought after than the Air Jordan. Once again the rarity of the pair has created a passion such as those who have one are considered in the eyes of others as experts and ultra stylish. The pairs are sold at a golden price between individuals. Kanye is probably the one who best embodies the word “hype”. The hype influences the fashions, the years, the people, some love it, others less … From: From: https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B01MZWMDRO/ref=asc_df_ https://www.lesitedelasneaker.com/release/adidas- B01MZWMDRO50338435/?tag=googshopfr- yeezy-boost-350-v2-zebra-cp9654/ 21&creative=22698&creativeASIN=B01MZWMDRO&linkCo de=df0&hvdev=c&hvnetw=g&hvqmt= To the left, it’s the cheapest Yeezy that we know, which costs 220€. And on the right we have one of the most expensive Yeezy that we know, which costs between 1 092€ and 2 772€. Of course the price varies with the design. Fashion responds to a cycle The majority of the most famous models of sneakers respond to a cycle. The Nike Huarache dates from 1991, the Adidas Stan Smith from 1964... Trends die as quickly as they are born and brands always keep in mind that fashion is ephemeral. Who still wears ultra-skinny-tight jeans and colorful tops like in the 2000s? On the contrary, brands like Fila, Champion or Ellesse deserted French dressings before returning in force.

COMPILED BY : - GAUTAM SINGH STUDY MATERIAL – SPORTS 0 7830294949 Biathlon - Overview Biathlon is one of the most challenging winter games which gives thrilling experience in chilled winter. This winter sport is a mixture of cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Biathlon is difficult to play because here the athletes participating in a cross country skiing race are distracted by frequent stops to shoot at sequence of targets. Biathlon is a combination of five events − individual, sprint, pursuit, relay, and mass start. In this game, the athletes compete in cross country skiing and shoot series of targets from a distance. The athletes need to be fast, focussed, and have more stamina. Every time the target is missed the biathlete either gets an additional time or distance penalty. It is important that the skier is fast enough to maintain the competition but should be slow enough to maintain control. In this game the athletes carry a rifle and shoot the target from the distance of 50m. One of the World’s first ever known ski club was formed in Norway in 1861. In 1924 the combination of skiing and shooting made its way to the Winter Olympics. It was then demonstrated in 1928, 1936 and 1948 but failed to regain Olympic competition back then. In mid 1950s biathlon was introduced into the Soviet and Swedish winter sport circuits and was enjoyed by the mass.

We are extremely proud to be the first city to achieve this record. To celebrate our unique history, we decided to name the event the Centenary Championships. The Centenary Championships are both an exciting and carefully prepared world-class sports event and one of the festivities that celebrate the centenary of Finland’s independence. A rare occasion for us Finns – and hopefully for our international guests. Lahti offers an optimal setting for record-breaking performances. The traditional venue has undergone extensive renovation and is now a fully functioning stadium that meets today’s requirements. We are also proud to have Vierumäki Olympic Training Center as our athlete’s village that allows the athletes to unwind and focus all their energy on performing at their best. We hope that the 2017 World Championships will leave their mark on future decades of sports events in Lahti and in Finland. The event has gained a great deal of popularity among young people, and we will soon have a new generation of volunteers for sports events.

FIFA Rules how the World Cup is Changing Football Culture in brazil By Bernardo Buarque de Hollanda and Jimmy Medeiros razil is known around the world as a footballing nation. The Brazilian style of play is universally characterized, to the point of stereotyping, as virtuous, Bcreative, simply amazing. Even Brazilians who have no interest in football whatsoever are compelled to talk about the sport when they go to social gatherings, travel abroad, or host foreign visitors. International broadcasts of tournaments such as the World Cup, organized by the Swiss-based Fédération Internationale de Football Association, or FIFA, have helped globalize the sport; in turn, given Brazil’s prowess in the game—it has won five FIFA World Cup trophies—this has made Brazilians and their country well known among the community of nations. Football’s worldwide scale and influence has thus contributed to the rise of Brazil’s international stature. In 1958, when Brazil won its first world title in Sweden, televi- sion only partially covered the games. But by 1970, when Brazil won its third title in Mexico, international broadcasts were fully established. Since then, the FIFA tour- nament has progressively expanded, and today, is avidly watched by enthusiasts on five continents. Sports tourism now sends thousands of fans descending on the host country and hundreds of millions more tuning into live broadcasts. It is certainly no longer a pastime primarily followed in Europe and South America. Up until 1978, only sixteen national teams participated in the finals of the World Cup; by 1982, the number had grown to twenty-four countries; and, since 1998, the finals have been expanded to include thirty-two teams.

  • The World Cup— a Pictorial History on Stamps by John F
Historic Events: The World Cup— A pictorial history on stamps by John F. Dunn With the World Cup beginning on June 12 and running through the championship game on July 13 in Brazil, we present here stamps that trace the history of this worldwide event from the first, 1930, competition to date. Prelude: The world’s most popular sport, football—known in the United States as soccer—has elements that trace back to ancient Greece and Rome, but the rules of the sport as we know it today came into fruition in the mid-19th Century in England, where various forms of the game were played as far back as the eight century. The first formal “International” competition was held in 1872, albeit it between England and Scotland. By 1900 the sport was sufficiently widespread that it was introduced as a demonstration sport (with no medals awarded), and then as a medal sport in the 1908 London Olympics. It was not until the 1920 Olympics that a non-Euro- pean nation competed—Egypt, along with 13 European teams—in a competition that was won by Belgium. Uru- guay won the 1924 and 1928 Olympics. By 1930, under the leadership of its President, Jules Rimet, the Federation Interna- tionale de Football Associations (FIFA) was ready to stage its own tournaments, free of the amateur restrictions of the Olympics. Hav- ing won the previous two Olympic Championships, and with the Jules Rimet and the first South American nation celebrates trophy, named “The God- its 100th Anniversary of inde- dess of Victory,” which pendence, Uruguay became the later came to be known as natural choice as the first World the Rimet Cup, on a stamp from Hungary.
