September 2020 Dispatch Brother Knights, This serves as my second monthly dispatch to the council as Grand Knight… praise God for continuity and inspiration! It’s hard to believe that September is already here (Tempus Fugit, Memento Mori), but I pray that God has been present in your lives and that you are able to converse with the LORD daily and attend Mass in person or virtually as often as possible (see Good of the Order below). If you take a look at the summary of upcoming events below, you will see that we have another busy month. I would especially like to point your attention to the Silver Rose event. This has become a very important endeavor to me and I would really appreciate a good showing from brother Knights. Additionally, our monthly general meeting, which will be September 9 after 5:30 Mass, will be no ordinary meeting. There are two neat things happening, so perhaps you won’t want to miss it. I will be honest that I’m attempting to build up enough interest that we get to see a good number of new faces, which is always exciting. Fun fact: St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, whose feast day is September 5, had an affinity for the Knights of Columbus. Although she was typically known to eschew worldly honors for her work, she did accept an award from the Knights of Columbus stating, “I accepted to come, and to accept out of sheer gratitude, for they (the Knights of Columbus) have done so much for our congregation and for our poor.” If I don’t happen to see you at any point this month, know that I will be praying for you and your family, asking the LORD to bless each of you abundantly! CONFIRMATION December 1, 2020 Dear Parents and Students, You have elected to register your son/daughter for the St. Agnes Christian Formation program this year. When registering your son/daughter it is stated that our Confirmation program is a two-year program. This program challenges him or her to grow in his or her understanding of the Catholic faith and his or her personal relationship with God. There are several points to make you aware of in preparation for Confirmation (which starts in 8th grade with the student receiving the Sacrament with the completion of 9th grade studies) (due to pandemic this school year completion of 10th grade)). Successful completion of the curriculum includes once a month catechesis, service to others, and spending time with God in prayer. The greatest form of prayer is the celebration of the Mass. As Catholics, we are encouraged to attend weekly Mass in order to recognize God’s love more fully in the Word and Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. While the pandemic poses a particular challenge at this time, students and their families are highly encouraged to either attend weekly Mass in person (Precautions are in place to ensure everyone’s safety) or to seek out an online Mass to encourage growth in love for Christ in preparation for Confirmation. Below is a list of other expectations. Remember, these “assignments” are designed to support our students in their desire to know, love, and serve our wonderful God while helping to prepare them for the reception of the Sacrament. This process for being Confirmed in the Spirit is a commitment from the parish, support from parents, and a commitment from the student that wishes to be Confirmed. -

Boulet) NOTE ON THE SPIRITUAL LIFE OF CHILDREN Among children who have kept their innocence of heart and who live in the love of Christ, experience testifies that there are always to be found some who outstrip the ordinary ways of the spiritual life and who enjoy a special familiarity with Christ. Such children, who doubtless act under the influence of the Holy Spirit and who are called to a higher spiritual life, need particular help. Children of this age who are specially gifted with grace can be recognized as such without much difficulty, since ordinarily they are not yet capable of so feigning an authentic interior life. The signs of a deeper spiritual life in children are as follows: a knowledge of God and of the mysteries of faith in which simplicity and profundity are joined in a wonderful way; promptitude to make sacrifices, especially when not seen by others; sincerity and truthfulness; a reverent way of speaking about God and Christ; a certain facility in meditating or praying in their own words. These signs ought to be joined to a serious desire of doing good and exercising virtues (obedience, diligence, charity, etc.). Where these signs are found, Directors must see if perhaps a disposition and a vocation to greater progress in the spiritual life is present. These children should in the first place be exhorted to fulfill the program of the Crusade, to do everything out of love for Jesus and as perfectly as they can. -

(005/11) Santa Susanna Santa Susanna is an 15th century monastic and titular church. It is on the Piazza San Bernardo, on the Via XX Settembre just north-west of the Piazza della Repubblica and its metro station in the rione Trevi. The dedication is to St Susanna, and the full official title is Santa Susanna alle Terme di Diocleziano. (1) History A church at Santa Susanna commemorates the place where, according to St. Jerome, a young Christian woman was martyred for refusing to worship Rome's pagan gods. Around the year 290 Susanna was residing with her father, Christian presbyter Gabinus, right next door to her saintly uncle Pope Caius (283-296), and in the shadows of the Emperor Diocletian's (284-305) immense baths. After refusing to break a vow of virginity to marry her insistent suitor Maximianus Galerius (none other than the Emperor's adopted son and heir), Susanna also balked at offering a pagan sacrifice, and was beheaded in her own home. The church of Santa Susanna is one of the oldest titles of Rome. The first Christian place of worship was built here in the 4th century. It was probably the titulus of Pope Caius (283-296). The early Christian church was built on the remains of three Roman villas, and was located immediately outside the fence of the Baths of Diocletian and close to the Servian walls. (8) First church By tradition, the church was built in 330, and named San Caio after the owner of the first chapel. In 590, the church was rededicated to St Susan because of her growing popularity. -

The Baptismal Font. THE mode of administering the Sacrament of Holy Baptism has varied from time to time and, in consequence, the vessel for .holding the baptismal water has not always taken the same form. There seems little doubt that the first baptisms took place in the open air and were performed by affusion. The earliest evidence we have in fresco or sculpture shows the candidate standing in the water, while the baptiser pours water over his head. In a fresco in the cemetery of St Callistus, Rome (circa 200 A.D.) a nude boy is represented as standing in the water up to his ankles, while water is being poured over him. In time the running stream gave place to fonts of a kind and these appear at first to have been simply wooden tubs.(I) Pope Caius (283-296) is said to have baptised St Claudius super pelvim ligneum. In the Cathedral at Tournai, Belgium, there are some old tapestries showing three fonts, two of which are depicted as wooden tubs, showing both staves and hoops. Incidentally the figures therein are represented as sitting or kneeling. In Scotland, there is no evidence that fonts were used in the earlier days of the Celtic missionaries. There is every likelihood that baptisms like preachings took place in the open air and that many of the wells, which still bear the names of these early pioneers, were used for this purpose. Near the Church of - St Monans, Fife, is a well still known as the Christening Well ". Probably in later days water would be drawn from it for the Sacrament. -
