London Bobbies Everybody knows the London Bobby, here he is! The helmet is very distinctive and was first used in 1863. Today, policemen in most of the country wear rather boring caps, but the London Bobby continues to wear the ‘custodian helmet’, as it is called. This helmet is also worn in other countries. Even some municipal police forces in Italy wear them. On the front of our Bobby’s helmet is a crest with a crown on the top. On the front is written E II R – Elizabeth II Regina. Most police forces in the world carry guns, but the British police usually don’t. So how do they defend themselves and keep order when necessary? They have a truncheon, which is a long, black, very heavy stick, made of wood or synthetic material. Since 2010 they have also carried a Taser, an electroshock weapon. Our Bobby also has a Bild Atlas, 1997 mobile phone and a torch. If a very serious case needs to be investigated by the police and there is a very high risk of danger, police are issued with guns, but for that case only. Many people think that the police should carry guns all the time, but other people disagree. There are arguments on both sides. What do you think? You are probably wondering why we call policemen ‘Bobbies’. Well, it goes back to 1829. Up to that date there was no real police force anywhere in England, apart from a very small group called the Bow Street Runners, which had been founded in 1749. Bow Street is the name of a law court, but the members of the group didn’t like being called Runners – they didn’t think it was very elegant! In 1829 they were replaced by a proper police force, and the Prime Minister who started it was called Sir Robert Peel. The diminutive of Robert is Bobby, so there is the answer. TV series featuring police are very popular and are mainly American programmes, like Criminal Minds and CSI. However, there have been some very successful British ones too, including Prime Suspect, Cracker and Inspector Morse. In all of them you can see the London Bobby! And next time you are in London and can’t find your way, the London Bobby will help you. Most of them will also let you take a selfie with them, but make sure you ask first! La Vuelta Del Casco Inglés
La vuelta del casco inglés. Ad portas de la celebración de los 150 años de la Tercera y en el marco de la misma, en Reunión de Compañía se decide volver a utilizar el casco de presentación estilo británico en reemplazo del casco estilo norteamericano. Sin embargo, tras algunas gestiones de voluntarios y al tomar conocimiento de la calidad y modelos que ofrecía el mercado, dicha decisión fue postergada indefinidamente. Tras casi 10 años, la idea fue retomada por Oficiales y entusiastas voluntarios que recorrieron y revisaron las alternativas de distintos fabricantes de cascos en Santiago y la V Región. Finalmente, tras meses de gestiones, pudo desarrollarse un modelo de casco basado en uno de nuestros viejos cascos de suela, con óptimos resultados. En paralelo, era de interés de la Oficialidad contar con una punta de cimera, la pieza de bronce que corona la cresta o cimera del casco, lo más similar a la original, lo que a la larga generaría una prolongada búsqueda de empresas que pudieran realizar un trabajo a la altura de nuestras expectativas, ya que en el mercado sólo se encontraban reproducciones en latón o bronce dibujados. Fue así como Cristian Arpoulet y su equipo de “Medallas Hours”, de Santiago, aceptó esta propuesta y desarrolló los cuños que nos han permitido obtener una pieza de gran factura. Las dos partes de la punta de cimera, fueron dibujados y esculpidos en dos cuños de acero por un experimentado dibujante y matricero que trabajó en Casa de Moneda, lo que garantizó un trabajo artesanal de gran calidad en los detalles y terminaciones.

This thesis reflects the complexities of police joint working amidst an era of austerity. It advances complex adaptive systems (CAS) as a theoretical construct, through which to study and comprehend the process of joint working. The principal aim is to provide a deeper and richer understanding of joint working, by drawing primarily on observations and experiences of warranted police officers and civilian police staff. The more specific objectives are to identify the utility of police joint working as a solution to social problems; investigate how joint work is accomplished using an ethnographic approach; contribute to understanding how joint working challenges might be approach differently. Through the application of CAS, a holistic and contextualised account of joint working is provided. In this respect, the thesis differs from previous atheoretical studies and literature employing a ‘communities of practice’ (CoP) approach.

CEF Study Group Recommended Great War Websites - 11 November 2012 - Canadian Expeditionary Force Study Group – Recommended Great War Websites – November 2012 he Canadian Expeditionary Force Study Group (CEF Study Group) is an internet discussion forum dedicated to the study, exchange of information and discussion related to the Canadian T Expeditionary Force (CEF) in the Great War. The CEF Study Group forum was formed in 2004 by Neil Burns, Forum Administrator and was generally based around some of the original "Canadian Pals" from the Great War Discussion forum. In general, you will not find many websites which glorify war and conflict - the common theme is generally to accurately document this event and to provide for the remembrance of those who participated in this historic world conflict. All aspects of the Canadian Expeditionary Force is open to examination. The moderators, in alphabetical order are: Peter Broznitsky, Richard Laughton & Dwight Mercer (aka Borden Battery). Emphasis is on coordinated study, information exchange, constructive critiquing of postings and general mutual support in the research and study of the CEF. Membership is free (but donations gratefully accepted) and backgrounds range from first-time readers of history to doctoral researchers and published authors. The CEF Study Group discussion forum also has a number of members who volunteer as "Mentors" to assist new members on the discussion forum and as they start their own personal research. The objective of the CEF Study Group List of Recommended Great War Websites is to serve as a directory for the researcher. These websites have been researched and grouped into logical sections.
