'Project Runway's' Lifestyle FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2013 Models walk the runway during the finale of the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. At her fitting for her Psychedelic Angel costume, with hand-painted thigh-high boots and maybe the biggest wings of the show, Kloss said that while the garments are skimpy, they take months to make. Candice Swanepoel got the glory of the opening look, wearing a $10 million bra decorated with dia- monds, rubies and sapphires that was cleverly dubbed the “Crown Jewels.” She was quickly followed by Cara Delevingne as an English footballer and Lily Aldridge, who often gets the good-girl outfits, as a punk in a tartan plaid skirt that no school would allow. Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz trailed pretty closely behind them, and who can blame him? As has become tradition, there wasn’t much for the lingerie retailer’s customers to wear here, but there was drama, fun and a delicacy to the clothes that seemed a contrast to the more overt sexiness of the past few years. The light touch on the tattered tulle used for the Shipwrecked segment, and the black beads that caught the light of the faux French streetlamps on the side of the run- way were examples of design skill. Jane Austen herself wrote , “I beleive Finery must have it” (23 September 1813) , and in Northanger Abbey we read that Mrs. Allen cannot begin to enjoy the delights of Bath until she “was provided with a dress of the newest fashion” (20). Whether a woman was like Jane and “so tired & ashamed of half my present stock that I even blush at the sight of the wardrobe which contains them ” (25 December 1798) or like the two Miss Beauforts in Sanditon , who required “six new Dresses each for a three days visit” (Minor Works 421), dress was a problem to be solved. There were no big-name designers with models to show o ff their creations. There was no Project Runway . There were no department stores or clothing empori - ums where one could browse for and purchase garments of the latest fashion. How did a woman achieve a stylish appearance? Just as we have Vogue , Elle and In Style magazines to keep us up to date on the most current styles, women of the Regency era had The Ladies Magazine , La Belle Assemblée , Le Beau Monde , The Gallery of Fashion , and a host of other publications (Decker) .

Each restaurant donates a percentage of the day's food sales, which goes to local organizations to fund care, prevention, education, testing, counseling and other essential HIV/AIDs services. In Chicago, EdgeAlliance's Dining Out for Life campaign celebrates 21 years of helping men, women and children impacted by HIV/AIDS by partnering with local restaurants. Participating restaurants around Chicago will donate a portion of their proceeds to EdgeAlliance, allowing its residents to sustain healthy lives through affordable housing and programming. In 2013, more than 8,000 diners and over 80 Chicago restaurants raised $115,000. This year, there are over 55 restaurants participating locally. "I've always been a big fan of the event, and before opening a restaurant, I've been a patron of the night," Taverna 750 owner Paul Cannella told ChicagoPride.com. "I'm a big fan of any fundraising activities that involve eating, drinking, spending time with friends, all while raising money for a great cause.

Dawisha: The Fashion Industry as a Slippery Discursive Site: Tracing the Lines of Flight Between Problem and Intervention (Under the direction of Dr. Patricia Parker) At the intersection of the glamorous façade of designer runway shows, such as those in Paris, Milan and New York, and the cheap prices at the local Walmart and Target, is the complicated, somewhat insidious “business” of the fashion industry. It is complicated because it both exploits and empowers, sometimes through the very same practices; it is insidious because its most exploitative practices are often hidden, reproduced, and sustained through a consumer culture in which we are all in some ways complicit. Since fashion’s inception, people and institutions have employed a myriad of discursive strategies to ignore and even justify their complicity in exploitative labor, environmental degradation, and neo-colonial practices. This dissertation identifies and analyzes five predicaments of fashion while locating the multiple interventions that engage various discursive spaces in the fashion industry. Ultimately, the analysis of discursive strategies by creatives, workers, organizers, and bloggers reveals the existence of agile interventions that are as nuanced as the problem, and that can engage with disciplinary power in all these complicated places.

Walk and run beginning at the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Run along the certified 5K route on Martin Luther King Drive at 8am. Right in our own backyard, thirty thousand of our friends, family, and neighbors live with HIV, a condition for which they are often judged and misunderstood. In 15 years, the rate of infection has not decreased. The 25 th Annual AIDS Walk Philly will also be a time to reflect over the past 25 years of the fundraising event as well as 30 years that the epidemic has existed. Robb Reichard, Executive Director of AIDS Fund , explains that part of the mission of the Walk is to give Philadelphians a better understanding of current HIV/AIDS facts.

    Mondo Guerra Bio Fashion designer Mondo Guerra won the hearts of judges, fellow contestants and viewers following the emotional disclosure of his HIV-positive status on Lifetime’s hit reality TV competition, Project Runway season 8. Mondo returned to the runway in 2012 on the debut season of Project Runway All Stars, where he emerged as the series’ first champion. And earlier this year, Mondo joined fashion guru and Emmy Award winner Tim Gunn as a mentor on the new show Project Runway: Under the Gunn. Mondo has been HIV-positive for over ten years and his courageous revelation on Project Runway has launched him into HIV awareness advocacy. He is currently collaborating with Merck on I Design, a national HIV education campaign aimed at helping to empower people with the disease to play an active role in designing their treatment plan with their doctors.
