Flushing is a very attractive and unspoilt waterside village, its quay’s fronting the eastern side of Falmouth in a harbour one of the deepest natural harbours in the world, local facilities include a general store, two public houses, a restaurant on the quay, junior school, church and chapel. There is a regular passenger ferry service providing direct and easy access to Falmouth landing at the Prince of Wales pier in the heart of the bustling waterside town – making shopping trips a real pleasure. Sailing enthusiasts are obviously well catered for with Flushing having an active sailing club which organises yacht racing throughout the season and is only a short walk from the site. The nearby Restronguet Sailing Club at Mylor caters for those more interested in racing dinghy’s and this is where a young Ben Ainslie learnt his craft. The Fal Estuary (Carrick Roads) is justifiably renowned as one of the south coast of Britain’s finest sailing areas as it offers safe and sheltered waters with beaches, creeks and villages to explore, including the upmarket resort of St Mawes. Within a day’s sailing distance are Helford and Fowey Rivers whilst Falmouth is also the most common port to start or end any voyage crossing either the Channel or the Atlantic. Falmouth has a complete range of facilities including secondary schooling, a hospital, most national retailers and supermarkets. There are excellent golf courses nearby at Falmouth, Killiow, Budock Vean and Truro. There is a branch line railway station which links to the mainline from Truro where direct trains to London take about 4½ hours. The cathedral city of Truro is 12 miles away and Cornwall’s capital providing an excellent range of shopping, business, commercial and private schooling facilities.
