Council Calendar To: Mayor and City Council From: Rick Getschow, City Manager Friday Report for June 1, 2012 1. Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Kick-Off – The kick-off for the new Eden Prairie Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Campaign (BTYR) is scheduled for this Saturday at 10:00 am at the Community Center parking lot as part of Schooner Days. There will be a series of speakers at the Saturday kick-off including Acting Mayor Ron Case. As you may recall, BTYR is a comprehensive program that creates awareness for the purpose of connecting military service members and their families with community support, training, services and resources. According to the organization’s website this is done in many other BTYR communities by: Creating awareness through the Yellow Ribbon Community Campaign and synchronizing sustainable community support networks; and Connecting and coordinating organizations, agencies and companies to provide resources and support to Service members and their families; and Delivering a series of formal Yellow Ribbon Training events to Service members and their families before, during and after deployment; and Providing an opportunity for Minnesotans to support Service members and their families. 2. GE Eco Experience Center – Mayor Tyra-Lukens, Council Member Aho, Janet Jeremiah and David Lindahl attended the grand opening of the GE vehicle innovation center in Eden Prairie yesterday. The new center showcases the newest array of alternative fuel vehicles in electric, natural gas, propane, hydrogen and other formats. The center also gives customers the opportunity to learn about and test-drive numerous alternative fuel cars and trucks in a single location with assistance from GE’s fleet experts. 3. Comcast Franchise Agreement Renewal – This past Wednesday the Southwest Suburban Cable Commission recommended approval of the renewed Comcast cable franchise agreement for 2012-2022. The five member cities will now need to take action on the proposed agreement. We have scheduled our July 17 City Council meeting as the date for consideration of the franchise agreement. 4. Greater MSP – The Council workshop on Tuesday will involve a presentation by the new regional economic development organization called Greater MSP. This less than one year-old organization is the result of a previous Itasca Project study on job growth throughout our region. One of the group’s studies found that our region fell short compared to other high performing regions around the world due to the lack of a clear regional strategy for economic development coordinated by a central group. That is a role that is now being filled by Greater MSP. Specifically, Greater MSP has stated that their role be will be to lead or partner with existing public and private organizations to: • Set a strategic vision for regional economic development • Define and guide a tactical economic development agenda • Brand and market our region to internal and external audiences • Retain and expand current businesses in the region • Attract new businesses to the region • Connect businesses with local resources and incentives PL SKYHAWKS T-BALL AND BASEBALL CAMP COOKOUT A Ages 4–8 Ages 8–12 YG Learn the fundamentals of fielding, catching, throwing, Have fun cooking dinner over a campfire, sing songs, hitting, and base running all in a fun, positive play games, go for short hikes, learn about nature ROU environment. athletes learn new baseball skills along and make a few craft projects.
