Activity: 3.4 Name of Activity:“Non-Newtonian Fluids”

Objective:To understand the behavior of fluids under the effects of magnetic forces and reinforce the observation skills.

Instructions: Use the investigation report format with all the components it should have i.e. –Front cover - Practice title – Practice’s objective – Introduction – Material – Procedure – Results and discussions – Conclusions – References and bibliography

Practice objective: Must be a short description of what you did and what are going to prove in this practice.

Introduction:Write an introduction to the practice, explaining the following terms: density, viscosity, shear rate, shear stress.

Material: List all the material involved.

Procedure (use pictures to help you explain everything you made in the lab session):

Explain step by step the procedure made in the laboratory for this practice.

Observations/Results:

List the main observations you made in the practice. Remember that every detail may be crucial to explain with success the observed phenomenon. Also, when you explain the observations don’t forget to relate that with something you already know. For example, an observation you made about how it behaves could be against a previous knowledge you already had, so in this case it makes you doubt about it.

Discussion:
Write all personal opinions about the values obtained and the procedure used.

Explain what kind of variations you did while manipulating it and how do you think this fluid works. Explain in your own words without using any hard technical definition what is a Non-Newtonian fluid.

Conclusion:

Related with the objective. Explain if the objective was successfully fulfilled.
