S To reemphasize, acid rain is made up of up sulfur trioxide (SO3), nitrogen oxide (NO), water and oxygen, where the amounts of these compounds are influenced by human Summarize population. When these two colorless, odorless gases reach the atmosphere they (The main points of combine with oxygen and water from the atmosphere to make the acid rain. Sulfur your paper) dioxide is released by burning fuel and nitrogen oxide is emitted from automobiles and the ignition of gasoline which all increase when the population of an area increases.

Since the increase in population increases the amount of acidic rain emissions in the T atmosphere from the increased human activities needed to support a higher Thesis Statement population, people need to think about where they are living and how they are (Testable impacting the environment around them. question/purpose)

A

The environment, both natural and man-made, is being eroded by the acidity of the Attention Getter Loop weather, not just rain. (Tie back to your introduction)

Living in the heavily populated city may have its advantages when it comes to C modern conveniences, but what else are people damaging by making that decision? Clincher

A graphic organizer to help write the introduction paragraph.

A= Attention Getter (quote, statistic, fact, T= Thesis Statement (testable question/purpose) question, etc.)

C= Connector (Why someone might be S= Summary of the Main Points (sets up the essay) interested, why important?)

A

Attention Getter The term “acid rain” is in some ways false. Not only is rain acidic, but snow, fog and sleet are as well. Any type of precipitation is slightly acidic. (Quote. Statistic, fact, question, etc)

Acidic precipitation is collected by clouds and then comes down out of the C atmosphere to earth. The acidity of the rain is influenced by the population of the Connector area because the higher the population the greater use of fossil fuels and gasoline (Why is this and industry emissions, which result in higher levels of the components of acid rain important beyond released into the atmosphere. the classroom?)

When something is classified as acidic, it is considered a corrosive or sour-tasting T liquid of this kind. Acid rain is made up of sulfur trioxide, nitrogen oxide, water and Thesis Statement oxygen. All of these reach the atmosphere and combine to create acid rain. (Allaby, (Testable 2003, pg.90). Rain is more acidic when more of these compounds are released into question/purpose) the atmosphere. When the precipitation is more acidic it causes more harm to the environment with which it comes in contact.

S

Rain’s acidity is based upon the concentration levels of the components that make up Summary of the Main Points acid rain, how these components are formed is through chemical reactions and human actions that increase the release of these components into the atmosphere. (Sets up the essay)
