POSITION TITLE: Communications PR/Social Media Associate DEPARTMENT: PR/Marketing

Type: Full-Time, Regular, 40 hours per week, most days 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. + with a ½ hour lunch break. Reports Monday through Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends required for special events or other activities.

Junior Achievement is looking for a team player to assist with all aspects of public relations and marketing.

This position will be responsible for:

PR Calendar:  Create and maintain calendar for media alerts, press releases, social media, e-newsletter, e-blasts, etc. to support the organization, specifically the programs and development teams.

Social Media:  Research content and schedule video and photo posts to all social media outlets. All items are subject to approval by JA staff. Very strong emphasis on corporate social media standards and guidelines.  Set goals, track and report progress throughout the year.  Update and train staff on usage of social media within organization.  Oversee and manage blog schedule for website. o Gather stories and ideas from staff, board members, volunteers and donors.

Public Relations:  Write annual PR plan to support all organization’s communication efforts.  Create media alerts and press releases based on programs and events.  Pitch media opportunities to print, television and online sources.  Coordinate on-site media coverage.  Maintain media contact database.  Research latest trends in public relations and social media.  Track various awards and contests to nominate Junior Achievement and/or president.  E-newsletter–collect content including stories and images from staff for monthly Constant Contact newsletter.  Website–maintain site updates as needed with ongoing direction from staff.  Programs–oversee creation and gathering of photos, videos and content of programs. o Work with programs teams to ensure photos and video are taken as necessary and edited to be used for website, social media, etc. o Recruit and supervise video production intern to showcase Junior Achievement’s programs and events.  Development–assist with gathering of items needed for grant reports in relation to social media and public relations. o Work with special events team to create awareness of upcoming events.  Graphics o Work with graphic designer to create visual content for items including but not limited to website, flyers, e-blasts, annual report, capital campaign.  Other o Prepare monthly email to board members for distribution of flyer, volunteer needs, etc. o Assist as needed with phones, doorbell and general office duties.

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations or related field. - 2+ years of experience in public relations and social media. - Knowledge of all aspects of social media including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn. - Proficiency in AP style and grammar. Ability to write clear and creatively. - Excellent oral communication skills. - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is preferred. - Ability to work independently with little direction once scope of work is outlined and understood. - Willingness and ability to work continuously in a timeline format with regular updates and communication to VP of Operations.
