The Medical Billing certificate is designed to prepare entry-level personnel in the medical records departments of hospitals, physician offices, peer review organizations, clinics, consulting firms, and/or insurance companies. This certificate covers topics such as ICD-CM coding, and other information related to medical insurance claims.

**The certificate requires a total of 34 semester hours which include a hand on course, “Medical Externship.” This course provides the student an opportunity to complete a 200 hours in the Medical Billing setting of a healthcare facility. The student MUST have ALL course work completed in order to be assigned an externship. Externship applications can be obtained in the Allied Health Office.
