Dear Eagle Staff Member and Parent:

I am glad you are now part of an elite group of students who are willing to assume the task of producing the Campbellsville High School yearbook. It will be one of the most rewarding activities you do in high school, if you get involved and are willing to learn.

Being on staff requires not only motivation and dedication, but also considerable amounts of time outside of the regular school day. Before you and your parents agree to this awesome responsibility, be aware of the following:

Yearbook class meets every day for 50 minutes, but be aware that the demands of yearbook sometimes require you to work before or after school. Your duties will include yearbook and ad sales, creating page layouts, writing copy, learning journalistic style, editing, and photography. Some of the photography will be done outside of class. You must be willing and able to attend school events in the evenings and sometimes, on the weekends.

Because the final deadline is after the last day of school (to ensure coverage of school events in late May like graduation, baseball, softball, and track), you may find it necessary to remain beyond the end of the school year until you complete your duties. This also includes coming back to school to proof pages during the summer months. If you do not complete your assigned duties to meet a deadline, you will receive grade reductions. It is your responsibility as a member of the staff to follow through with all your assigned duties and pages until the yearbook is complete and the final pages have been submitted. If all other pages are completed before school is out, I will do the final Class Night, Baccalaureate, and Graduation pages.

In addition, there are certain aspects of yearbook class that are unique to this class. Yearbook staff members are responsible for selling ads that help support the book production costs. You will need to be able to meet with businesses about ad sales during class. You will need your own transportation or be able to ride with someone on staff that drives. To receive a 100 for ad sales, you must sell $400 in advertising. If you sell one additional ad not on the original sales list, you will receive your yearbook free.

Requirements for the Eagle oftentimes create hardships for those who work, take care of family, or have athletic practice after school. It is not impossible for a student with a busy schedule to be a part of yearbook class, but be aware – this class takes great dedication and responsibility because of the financial aspect of the class. You and your parent(s) must be aware of this commitment and decide if this is something you really want to, can, and are willing to commit yourself to.

If you have any questions at any time throughout the year, please call or email me. You can usually reach me between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm at 270.465.8774 or anytime at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Valerie Davis
