SUPERINTENDENT’S EVALUATION FORM

Scoring Instructions: Please assess the superintendent’s performance by scoring each item in the listed category. A score of (1) is the lowest possible score while a score of (9) indicates exceptional performance. The rating scales should reflect the following:

1-3 Unsatisfactory

4-6 Satisfactory

7-9 Excellent

RELATIONSHIP WITH THE BOARD:

1)  Keeps the board informed on issues, needs, & operation of the school.

2)  Offers professional advice to the board on items requiring board action, with appropriate recommendations based on study & analysis

3)  Interprets & executes the intent of board policy

4)  Supports board policy & actions to the public & staff

5)  Has a good working relationship with the board

6)  Understands his role in administration of board policy

7)  Makes recommendations for employment or promotion of personnel

8)  Does not show favoritism in selecting personnel

9)  Accepts his role as liaison between the board and personnel

10) Goes to the board when he has a difference of opinion between he & any board member.

11) Bases his decisions on sound educational principle & is willing to maintain that position without regard for its popularity until board has reached an official position. He then supports the position chosen by the board.

COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS

1)  Gains respect & support of the community on the conduct of school operation

2)  Develops good relationships with the news media

3)  Is a positive ambassador for the school district

4)  Practices two-way communication with parents and community

STAFF & PERSONNEL RELATIONSHIPS

1)  Develops & executes sound personnel practices

2)  Treats all personnel fairly without favoritism or discrimination

3)  Delegates authority to staff members as appropriate

4)  Recruits & assigns the best available personnel for positions within the district Effectively selects, develops, and utilizes personnel

5)  Takes an active role in salary schedule development & makes sound recommendations to the board on such matters

6)  Has a positive relationship with the local teacher association

7)  Builds and enhances organizational capacity

8)  Provides formal and informal feedback with the exclusive purpose of improving individual and organizational performance

EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP

1)  Understands & keeps informed regarding all aspects of the instructional program.

2)  Implements the district’s philosophy of education

3)  Supervises planned programs of staff evaluation

4)  Expects high professional standards to be maintained by staff

5)  Links decisions to vision, mission, and strategic priorities

6)  Consistently establishes clear objectives and coherent plans when undertaking complex projects

7)  Fosters the proposition of learning for all

8)  Plans and sets goal(s) for student achievement

9)  Uses student achievement results to guide improvement planning

BUSINESS & FINANCE

1)  Keeps informed on needs of the school program

2)  Supervises operations & insists on competent/efficient performance

3)  Determines that funds are spent wisely

4)  Maintains appropriate accounting system

5)  Evaluates financial needs & makes recommendations for adequate financing

1)  Defends his principle & his convictions in the face of pressure from others

2)  Reacts constructively to disappointment and/or failure. Displays a willingness to admit mistakes and is able to perceive them as opportunities for growth
