St. Paul Is Urging Us to Use Our Talents and to Do Everything As Well As We Can

FIRST READING

St. Paul is urging us to use our talents and to do everything as well as we can.

Each of us has different talents. God has seen to that. We must use them. For example, some of us are able to understand God’s ways better than others; some of us deal with business better; some of us are teachers; some of us are speakers. Let us use our different gifts with God’s help. And so with everything we do.

If we give, let us be generous givers; if we are leaders, let us be energetic leaders; if we are helping others, let us be cheerful helpers.

This is the Word of the Lord.

ALL:Thanks be to God.

SECOND READING

This reading comes from the story of the Apostles. It tells us about the first time the Holy Spirit came to live in us.

The followers of Jesus were sitting together in one room, when suddenly they heard the sound of a strong wind blowing right through the whole house, and they could see something like flames of fire everywhere, that came and touched each one of them. IN this way they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. At once, they went outside and began to tell everyone the story of Jesus. There were people there from every country in the world, and they all heard the good news of Jesus.

This is the word of the Lord.

ALL:Thanks be to God.

We pray for those who are suffering all over the world, because of illness, war and famine. Help us throughout life to remember those less fortunate than ourselves.

Lord, Hear Us.
