Easter Rising – WebQuest

You may complete this assignment individually or in groups ofup to four.

You will be completing a totalof FOUR Tasks. Three will be completed today in class and tomorrow you will take a quiz (open partner, not open note).

Directions:Read through the provided websites and the PDF on my website labeled Easter Rising Docs (this will be the most helpful for task 1)and take notes. Each student should be taking notes individually, however you may complete Tasks 1-3 as a group. You are not required to thoroughly read every website; I’m simply providing you with a variety of sources to help you complete the four tasks. You are welcome to locate other sources through the internet or library databases if you so please.

Task 1:Answer the following questions on a separate piece of paper.(Due: Wednesday February 24th)

  1. Who planned the Easter Rising?
  2. Who carried out the Easter Rising?
  3. Who formed and led the Military council set up to plan the Easter Rising?
  4. What is the IRB?
  5. Name the four members of the Military council who were linked to both the IRB and the Irish Volunteers.
  6. What did Eoin MacNeill want to avoid?
  7. What did the Irish Volunteers want by 1916 and how were the going to achieve it?
  8. Why did the rebels link with Connolly’s Irish Citizen Army?
  9. How did the rebellion try to disguises its preparations?
  10. What was MacNeill’s reaction to the planned rebellion and what actions he take?
  11. Where were the rebels supposed to get their guns from (place and person)?

Task 2: Using the websites and PDF provided, you will create a timeline with at least 10 major events leading up to the rebellion and the rebellion itself. All dates and event significances/summary needs to be written in your own words. This needs to be done on a separate piece of paper. It should be clear, neat, easily understandable and in chronological order.(Due: Wednesday February 24th)

Task 3: You will need to write a diary entry as if you were witnessing the rebellion. It can be hand written (1 full page) or typed (1/2 to a whole page single spaced).(Due: Wednesday February 24th)

Task 4:Quiz tomorrow at the start of class (open partner). Wednesday February 24th
