The meeting discussions were based upon upcoming events:

PTO General Session & Ribbon Cutting – 9/15 6-7pm will feature enhancement teachers with curriculum and TC Robillard presenting the budget. If there is time, Tanya, the area leader for Girls on the Run will speak briefly about nutrition and fitness. 7-7:30pm – We will move the meeting outside to the track at this time. Chris Robillard will introduce Tanner Purvis and thank him for his work. He will get to cut the ribbon and then Girls On The Run participants and coaches will run an inaugural lap around the track. Refreshments will be served afterward (lemonade, water, cookies). Please wear your running gear so you can run, too. Anne Zirkle is going to take photos

Red Robin Night – 9/20 Chris Robillard will be dressing up as the Red Robin to promote the night. She needs assistance. The following members volunteered to walk with her: 7:15am (car drop-off) – Liana 10:55-1pm (lunches) – Rebecca 2:15pm (car pick-up) – Teresa Rebecca offered to hand out flyers at Red Robin that night (set-up a table outside. We only get proceeds for tables who have a flyer).

Fall Book Fair Everything falling into place. Anne Zirkle has 9 more volunteer slots to fill. A connect- ed message went out last night.

Newcomer Social (Alycia) Important DATE CHANGE: from September 27th to October 3rd. Event will be held directly after school in the school cafeteria. Ice cream will be served. It is intended for people who are new to the Mooresville area. Please come support Alycia and help answer questions. Children are welcome.

Newsletter Several board members requested that we do not use red paper in the future. They found it difficult to read the newsletter. Please keep your information for future newsletters as succinct as possible. Space is very limited and we had to cut a lot on the September newsletter.

Capital Needs Campaign

1 This will kick off in November. Please talk to your friends, neighbors that are Wells Fargo employees that during the month of September. Any charitable donation that the employee makes the corporate match will be DOUBLED during September. Please encourage them to go ahead and give early to the Capital Campaign. We’re trying to find ways to get the word out.

Directory Julie and Alycia are currently still receiving directory forms and inputting all of the information. As soon as that is complete, they will be able to provide PTO board members with names of interested volunteers. It was recommended that we place a disclaimer in the front of the directory stating “Not to be used for solicitation purposes” to discourage parents who own local businesses from marketing to our parent population.

Community Service Day (Date TBD – end of October) Pete Sorenson – a parent, who owns a landscaping business, has offered to let us use any of their equipment. Sand needed for the sand box (kinder playground). Let’s consider a plaque to recognize donations in the future. We should also send a handwritten thank you to the Chairman, CEO and person in charge of corporate giving.

Picture Day – October 13th 3-4 parents needed to help during each of the following time slots: 7:45-9:30am or 9:30-11am.

Mr. Todd’s curriculum update The teachers are working hard to maximize the effectiveness of self-guided reading time (often called D.E.A.R. time). Teachers are implementing some guided reading groups and attacking skills for K-5.

Upcoming dates: Next meeting date: October 3rd Box Top Contest – October 3 thru October 31 Next spirit night: Chick or Treat on October 24th at Chick-Fil-A. Costumes encouraged. Jump Rope For Heart sponsored by the PE department – October 24th – November 4th
