FIEC presents the views of the construction employers in the EU Tripartite Social Summit As the Sectoral Social Partner for the European Construction Industry, representing employers, FIEC President Jean-Louis Marchand participated in the Tripartite Social Summit, co-chaired by the President of the EU Council, Donald Tusk, the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, and the Prime Minister of the EU Slovak Presidency of the Council, Robert Fico. Addressing senior policy makers, including Commission Vice-President Dombrovskis and Commissioner Thyssen, Jean-Louis Marchand highlighted the priorities of FIEC and the key role played by the construction industry in terms of growth and jobs. He went on to underline that for FIEC the proposal for a revision of the Posting Directive does not address the right priorities.

FIEC TEC President to speak in Amsterdam on BIM FIEC Vice President and President of the Technical Commission, Kjetil Tonning, will speak at the GeoBIM conference in Amsterdam on 24 November. Some countries in Europe are already using BIM as the norm in their infrastructure contracts, while others are lagging behind. FIEC is aware that there is a big emphasis on BIM in the construction of buildings, whereas the discussion around infrastructure seems less intense by comparison. Mr Tonning will share his experience of the current situation around Europe.

A new Erasmus+ call for proposals has been published and focusses on VET (Vocational Education and Training)- Business Partnerships on Work-based learning and Apprenticeships (EACEA 40/2016). Against the background of high youth unemployment and skills mismatch, the overall aim is to bridge the gap between the worlds of education and business, to improve the relevance of education and training to labour market needs. In this context, the objective is to invite the submission of proposals on VET-business partnerships to develop work- based learning. The focus lies on the regional and local dimension in order to produce concrete and sustainable results on the ground. The total budget available for projects is EUR 6 million and the deadline for the submission of proposals is 17 January 2017.
