A 34 year old active duty Navy Pilot G0 presents to the infertility clinic with chronic pelvic pain and infertility. She complains that her menses are always painful, heavy, and associated with diarrhea and bloating. Because of her job as a pilot, she often did not take anything for the pain, but now she is getting worried since she and her husband have been unable to conceive a child after attempts >14 months. She is otherwise in excellent health. She notes that her mother and older sister also complained of heavy and painful periods. Please discuss the diagnosis and management of this patient.
