Sh. However the family returned, they found that Arun had decamped with all the Gold and Diamond Jewellery and Lacs of Rupees kept in the house after ransacking it. FIR No. 33/08 u/s 381 IPC was registered at PS Paschim Vihar on this report.

TEAM

Since the amount of theft was huge, it grabbed media attention. As the image of Delhi Police was at stake, a special team was found to solve the case and recover the stolen booty under the supervision of Sh. A. K. Lall ACP / Punjabi Bagh. Other members of the team were Inspr. Sanjeev Tomar, SHO Paschim Vihar, SI Satish Kumar, IC PP Miawali, ASI Padmesh Tyagi, HC Rishi Yadav, HC Mohinder, Const. Satya Parkash

In this case, even though the accused was already identified being a servant in the Bansal’s House, however, what made the task difficult for police was that the Bansal family had not got the servant verified before employing him and what is surprising is that except his name and that he hailed from Bihar, the Bansal family could not provide any other clue about him. In these difficult circumstances, a strategy was worked out to get more information about Arun which included, besides technical surveillance through mobile phones, scanning through hundreds of dossiers, examining records of persons earlier arrested / convicted in servant theft cases and ascertaining their present whereabouts. Un-ceasing and painstaking efforts of the police team finally bore fruits and the team was able to obtain complete identity of Arun who was found to have been involved in a robbery case registered in PS Model Town, in the year 2004, vide FIR No.10 u/s 392/397/34 IPC, his dossier was shown to the complainant family who identified him and conform that he was the same Arun. After this intial bit of success, the police team started the exercise of tracing his whereabouts. Raids were carried out at several places in Delhi (Burari, Karol Bagh, Anand Parbat, Jaroda Majra, Model Town, Shalimar Bagh) and Madhubani Distt. of Bihar. But Arun continued to evade the police net by frequently changing his hideouts. Mean while, HC Rishi Yadav, posted in the office of ACP Punjabi Bagh received a specific tip off from one of the sources deployed by him that Arun would be coming to Beadon Pura area of Karol Bagh at about 4 pm on 16/03/08 to meet one Som Nath with whom he is trying to dispose off the stolen jewellery. Following this information, the team members in plain clothes were deployed alongwith the informer at and around the proposed place of Arun’s visit. At about 4.05 pm, Arun, who was with one of his associates, was spotted by the informer coming towards the Beadonpura Market. The entire team was alerted and in a swift operation, HC Rishi and other members of raiding team nabbed Arun and his associate. From their possession, cash and Diamond Jewellary were recovered. On quick spot interrogation, Arun disclosed about the theft committed by him in the Bansal house alongwith Raj Kumar in Mianwali Nagar in the night of 26th Jan 2008. Regarding the purpose of visit to Beadon Pura Karol Bagh, Arun revealed that one Som Nath, a Jewellery maker of Beadon Pura is helping him in disposing off the stolen jewellery. The police team immediately raided Somnath’s premises and recovered part of the stolen jewellery from him. On the basis of information obtained from the arrested accused persons, the police team has been able to recover Gold and Diamond jewellery worth about 40 Lacs of Rupees and cash Rs. 97,000/-.
