Project SEARCH Newsletter – Spring Issue

Project SEARCH Graduation is near! The 2016-17 school year is coming to a close. Nine interns with Project SEARCH, a program for young adults with disabilities, gained valuable work experience over the past year at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center. From transporting patients in Cardiovascular Services to stocking medicines in the Pharmacy and selling coffee from the Healing Grounds mobile coffee cart, these students learned that there are many ways to serve the public in a community hospital. Interns worked in 12 different departments this year! We have enjoyed assisting your departments and look forward to working with you again in the fall when 10 new interns will be ready to go!

George worked in Dietary Services and Nursing Division 6 this year. George truly enjoyed working with Jay, Connie and the rest of the dietary staff this past year. He was thrilled when they had a big party for him upon completion of his first rotation. George plans to catch some rays in Myrtle Beach this summer!

Istvan has worked in the Pharmacy, Occupational Health, Child Care and Cardiovascular Services this year. He fondly recalls a Chipotle lunch with Sophia and her department on the last day of the rotation in Occupational Health Parma. Istvan has been practicing his driving skills in hopes of obtaining his license this summer. He recently vacationed in Florida with his family.

Amanda spent time in Environmental Services, Occupational Health Parma, Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and Materials Management where she learned many valuable skills that will assist her in attaining a job in the food service or housekeeping industry. Amanda recalls a time when she chatted with Mike and Cindi in Cardiovascular Rehabilitation as they enjoyed some healthy treats. She will travel to Hilton Head this summer.

Angie has completed rotations in Dietary Services, Environmental Services and Healing Grounds. She appreciates all of the skills he learned from Lisa, Pat and Dave in the laundry room. Angie is looking forward to the St. Anthony Carnival this summer where she can go on the rides and eat some delicious food! Tiffany interned in Nursing Division 6, the Emergency Room and Healing Grounds. Tiffany was very happy when Debbie from Healing Grounds smiled and commended her on a job well done! She is going to a waterpark this summer with her grandmother, and is looking forward to sleepovers with her friends.

Sarah completed rotations in Cardiovascular Services, Healing Grounds and Child Care. She would love to get a job where she can show off her baking skills. Sarah recalls numerous conversations with Joey, Barb, Leona, Dion and Dave in Cardiovascular Services. It was her favorite rotation! Sarah is helping her family prepare for upcoming renovations of their home.

Eric worked at Healing Grounds and Outpatient Services before being hired by Signature Sauces in Independence this year. He deep cleans and sanitizes their equipment full-time! The cleaning skills he learned from Lucy in Outpatient Services certainly helped him land a great job!

Ashley worked in Central Services, Occupational Health and the Pharmacy before moving to Cleveland in February. She liked spending her breaks talking and eating snacks with the Central Services staff. Ashley currently does maintenance work with her finance at apartment complexes near her home.

Dominic spent time in Materials Management, Nursing Division 6 and Environmental Services. He really enjoyed delivering supplies to all areas of the hospital when he worked in the stockroom with Nina and the rest of the team, and was thankful for a Milky way bar he received from Karen when picking up EKG’s. Dominic will play basketball and watch Indians games this summer
