The Armed Forces Center for Child Protection (AFCCP) at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland was created to support the military and civilian professionals addressing child maltreatment in the Department of Defense. The mission of the AFCCP is to provide objective medical child maltreatment expertise- when and where it is needed throughout the Department of Defense. Available services include medical/forensic interviews and examinations, case guidance, medical-legal case review, expert medical testimony, as well as training and education on child maltreatment topics. Types of cases to be referred to the AFCCP include suspected child physical or sexual abuse, child neglect, child fatalities, and child pornography. For urgent assistance, Department of Defense multi-disciplinary professionals may access the AFCCP 24 hours per day. After duty hours, call our office phones first to see if we are in town or left a message as to which staff member is covering emergencies. We are also available via our email addresses even when TAD/TDY except while in Asia, via our Blackberries.
