PREVENTION OF INJURY DEATHS AND HOSPITALIZATIONS
I.Overview of the Injury Prevention Mini-Grants
A.Purpose of this Mini-Grant
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment invites regional and community programs (see eligibility requirements) to apply for funds, not to exceed $5,000 per community, to reduce unintentional injuries. Projects will reduce injury deaths through the development of community-based injury prevention efforts in their respective regions.
- Goal of the Prevention Program
Reduce unintentional injury deaths through coordination, implementation, and evaluation of model intervention programs.
- Objectives of the Prevention Activities
- Through Regional and Community Programs, support the coordination of community-based unintentional injury prevention initiatives.
- Through Regional and Community Programs, support community-based, non-profit organizations in the implementation of initiatives that address changes in knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and/or environments in an effort to reduce unintentional injury deaths and hospitalizations.
- To evaluate model community-based injury prevention interventions including:
- Number of local organizations participating in collaborative project.
- Identification of target population in local community.
- Identification of intervention/education to be implemented.
- Number of individuals trained to conduct interventions in the injury prevention goal areas.
- Number of individuals participating in the education/intervention.
- Eligibility and Funding
- Eligible Applicants
Private or public non-profit community-based organizations, or units of local and state government are eligible to apply for these funds. Only one applicant per community will be considered; if necessary, applicants will be notified of multiple community applications following receipt of mini-grant application. B.Purpose of Funds
Funds must be used for community-based coordination and the development, implementation, and evaluation of unintentional injury prevention interventions.
C.Availability of Funds
This is a competitive process with mini-grant awards not to exceed $5,000.00 per community. Only one proposal per community will be reviewed.
- Reporting Requirements
A project timeline must be submitted along with the grant application. A final report summarizing the results of the project and an affidavit of expenditures must be submitted within 30 days following the end of the grant period.
- Use of Funds
Funds may not be used for capital acquisitions or food/beverage items.
