Rashtrapati Scout/Guide/Rover/Ranger Certificates and Awards to Adult Leaders New Delhi:- The Rashtrapati Scout, Guide, Rover, Ranger Certificates and Awards to Adult Leaders were presented by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon’ble President of India at Darbar Hall, Rashtrapati Bhavan on 08th December, 2015.

The Ceremony started with the National Anthem on the arrival of Respected Rashtrapatiji followed by Grand Salute and Scout Guide Prayer.

Shri B. I. Nagarale, Chief National Commissioner made the introductory speech explaining the importance of the Rashtrapati Award which was graciously sanctioned and instituted by the First President of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad in the year 1961. He also explained the growth of the organization since its inception as a unified Movement for Scouting and Guiding of India.

Shri Ashok Gehlot, President of Bharat Scouts and Guides presented scarf of the Bharat Scouts and Guides to Respected Rashtrapatiji and greeted him.

The Hon’ble President of India presented the Awards to 43 Adult Leaders, 06 of them were from Aboard for Silver Elephant & Silver Star and rest of the Indian Awardees 23 for Silver Elephant, 03 Bar to Silver Star and 17 Silver Star.

The Rashtrapati Scout/Guide Award Certificates were presented to representatives of 34 States and Rover/Ranger awards presented to representatives of 16 States, who represented 3840 awardees, qualified for Rashtrapati Award for the year 2014. The smart turn out of our children was appreciated by President of India and guests who were present there in the historic Durbar Hall at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Speaking on the occasion, the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee said that the movement of Scout and Guides is a unique platform available to the youth to learn through experience, the values of friendship, hard work, harmony and humanity. Since its inception in 1907, under the leadership of Robert-Baden Powell, the movement has spread throughout the world. Today almost every country in the world has presence of Scouting and Guiding organization. Through its activities like community service, integration camps, exchange programs, outdoor activities, the Scout movement aims to inspire youth to contribute positively in the development of the nation and society. I’m glad to know that Bharat Scouts and Guides, with a membership of more than 5 million, is one of the largest non-governmental organization in our country.

The President said that for any progressive society, the citizens must possess an international outlook, modern perspective, digital and professional skills to steer the nation forward. We need to involve and groom the youth of our country with this purpose and instill in them a spirit of brotherhood, love and compassion. Today India is a young nation, with more than half of its population of the age of twenty-five years or less. In order to truly harness the potential of youth, we need to inculcate in them the core civilizational values i.e. compassion for all; love for motherland; respect for women; truth and honesty in life; discipline and self-restraint in conduct, and responsibility in action. I am indeed happy to note that a team of Volunteers of Bharat Scouts & Guides had reached interior villages of earthquake hit Nepal to provide relief and rehabilitation, within 48 hours of the occurrence of the disaster in April, 2015.

I am glad to know that Bharat Scouts and Guides have taken new initiatives like "World Scout Environment Badge” and "Scouts Go Solar” to actively contribute in preserving the natural resources and to strive for a cleaner environment. The initiatives of Scouts and Guides to educate the young persons about internet frauds through the newly introduced curriculum, "Surf Smart” is an important initiative to create awareness about responsible cyber surfing and internet usage.

Two patriotic community songs, the Asamee Song “Vishwa Vijay Nojawan” and second Hindi Song “Chand sitaro” were sung by participants was very well received by all.

Dr. (Mrs.) V. Vijayalakshmi, National Commissioner (Guides) presented vote of thanks to Hon’ble President of India for giving opportunity to the Bharat Scouts and Guides to host Rashtrapati Award presentation Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Shri K. Sukumara, Director conducted the Ceremony.
