Homework AP GOVERNMENT 2015-2016 Unit ONE In this first unit, we will begin our studies of comparative government and use both the US and the UK as case studies of “advanced democracies.” Not only will you become familiar with the “basics” of the study of comparative government and with the essential concepts, ideas and events in British politics, you will also understand the foundations of US government as developed and established in our Constitution and with our civil liberties and civil rights which are the essence of a liberal (as in “free”) democracy.

Note: the dates given are the latest dates you should do the homework. You will have a quiz over the material on the following day, regardless of whether or not you were in class on the previous day. Be careful because we ar using a variety of sources. For studies in comparative government, we have two texts and you must be sure you are reading form the correct one, I will refer to a Cases in Comparative Politics, 3 rd Edition by O’Neil as “Cases” and to Essentials of Comparative Politics as “Essentials.” Barrons” refers to the US gov prep book, which I recommend you purchase. You will also be assigned videos and other readings from online sources.
