Yearbook Orders – page 4 Hunter Safety Team – page 5 We hope you enjoyed a restful holiday break, and are settling in Clothing Exchange – page 5 Teacher Award – page 6 to the New Year well. Crosby Scholars – page 6 Reynolds Revue – page 7 Exam time always seems a bit daunting. Thanks to RJR’s Legacy – page 8 outstanding staff and faculty, a diligent student body, and a small Sports Hall of Fame – page 9 army of volunteers, exams went smoothly. In fact, we heard Spring Sports Tryouts – page 9 several comments at the SIT meeting last week about how well Stuart Scott Fund – page 9 behaved and focused Reynolds students were throughout exam time. A very special thank you goes to Sally Carlton for taking on the task of recruiting proctors. We had a record number of volunteers covering proctoring needs throughout exam time! Congratulations to everyone for a job well done!

Please save the date and spread the word about this year’s Reynolds Revue, Registration Fair and second PTSA general meeting coming up on Wednesday, February 4th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. This annual event is a wonderful opportunity for current and prospective families to learn more about RJR. We hope to see many of you there!

On February 6th, we will honor this year’s sports Hall of Fame inductees with a special recognition during Friday night’s varsity men’s game against Mount Tabor. Many thanks to our Booster Club Presidents, Jeanne and Tim Brooker, for coordinating this momentous occasion. Let’s fill the stands to cheer on RJR’s amazing basketball teams, and share in the celebration of the Hall of Fame inductees. The 9th grade men’s game begins at 4:15, varsity women play at 6:00, and the varsity men’s game will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Teachers and staff were treated to a “Souper” luncheon on Wednesday, January 28th. This annual tradition is a perfect way to thank these engaging, dedicated men and ladies who continually awe us as they work tirelessly to support our students all year long. A huge thanks to our hospitality committee chairs and members for putting on the luncheon!

A number of our talented students have recently been recognized for their artistic and musical talents. Please read page three of this newsletter for a complete list of those recently honored. We are so proud to call each of you RJR Demons!

Gratefully yours,

Alan and Kate Ruley

This honor recognizes teachers who have been teaching in scholastic journalism for five years or less for their commitment, leadership and innovation in their field. The award will be presented at the JEA’s national conference in April. To read more about this amazing award and a list of other recipients, go to: http://jea.org/blog/2015/01/27/jea-selects-11-advisers-rising-stars/. Way to go, Mr. Hanf!

Members of the newspaper and yearbook staffs sold Attractions coupon books for Winston-Salem and the Triad earlier this year. A few of these books filled with bargains still remain for this fundraiser, which helps pay for Pine Whispers printing costs and keeping the cost of the Black & Gold as low as possible for the student body. If your family would like a book, have your student stop by Room 210 to pick up one (or two!). Cost is $25. Checks can be made payable to RJR. Questions? Contact adviser Steve Hanf at [email protected].
