Wheelchair and Seating Series – Session 6: Prescribing and adjusting manual wheelchairs – REFRESHER Session

This session forms part of the wheelchair and seating series. The intention of the refresher session is to build on or “refresh” existing skills covered in Session 1, not to teach a therapist new skills in any of the listed areas below. It is an opportunity to practice and share experiences with other prescribers who are at a similar skill level.

Attendance to the Wheelchair and Seating Series – Session 1: Prescribing and adjusting manual wheelchairs is a pre-requisite, but RPL can be applied for using the “Recognition of Prior Learning Manual Wheelchairs” form.

This is a hands-on session with activities and the opportunity to become familiar with some of the tender items.

It is an expectation that all participants will have attended the Equipment Program and DES Orientation, and have a working knowledge of the Equipment Program. Basic information about policy and procedures will not be covered in this session.

  • MWC configurations / terminology and the key clinical considerations in prescription of these
  • Forms required for customisation of Type 1 MWC
  • Prescribing appropriate MWC type and accessories for different client situations
