Family Life Moments “In the breaking of the bread” Lk.24: 13f

Let us Pray for the sick in our Community: This story, unique to Luke, tells of Jesus’ appearance

Ricki Nero, James Rogers, Dolores Miller to two disciples who had given up their faith and and Angie Morton departed from the group of Jesus’ disciples. They were travelling from Jerusalem to Emmaus when the risen Let us pray for those in our Community who have died: Jesus joined them, seemingly out of nowhere, opened George Crook and their eyes to the Scriptures, and then revealed himself James Lillis, Uncle of Shelley Porter to them in the breaking of the bread. He did more than open their minds and hearts as he broke bread with them. By breaking and sharing, we For Individual and Family Reflection grasp the virtue of compassion. Compassion literally Next Week's Reading— May 11, 2014 means “to suffer with.” Christ, who is the bread of life, broke and emptied himself on the cross. By doing First Reading: Acts 2:14a, 36-41 so, the travellers slowly began to find new faith as the Second Reading: 1 Pt 2:20b-25 old faith had left them. They could find faith only after Gospel: Jn 10:1-10 breaking open the word and bread with Jesus. There Catholic Bible is available at are some who have to put their fingers into the wounds http://usccb.org/bible/ of Jesus’ brokenness before rediscovering a deeper faith. Suffering is our teacher!

Ministry to the Sick It is a paradox of faith, we all face at one time or another. In the recently released diary of Mother and Homebound: Theresa, she speaks of her “dark night” of faith which began shortly after her ministry in Calcutta. "Where is Would you like to have someone my faith?" she wrote. "Even deep down… there is nothing but emptiness and darkness... If there be God bring you the Eucharist. — please forgive me." After her faith “support

Week Nine The six spiritual diagnostic exercises for this week’s lesson offer you the potential for more enlightenment. Spend your 15-minute sessions this week listening to your heart. Ask God for the grace to discern the key elements in your life story linked to: gratitude; relationships; spiritual, social and financial values; and those you need to forgive, or whose forgiveness you need accept. Take one day for each of the six spiritual diagnostics. Deciphering these can help you see the two plot-lines in your life history more clearly. Be sure to ask for God’s assis- tance to “see” each of these six elements. Use the personal name for God to ask for this grace for each day’s prayer.

For more information or to begin this spiritual journey, go to the Lent page on our parish website.
