SILENT AUCTION: LOT 5 Through a Glass Darkly, Archival Digital Print, 18”x 12" by artist Andrea Cote As a multimedia artist, Andrea Cote uses photography, prints, paintings, sculp- tures, performances and installations to create her work. She uses her desire to reconcile interior and external experiences of the body, to plumb the psyche, and capture the fleeting nature of emotion, sensation and memory. InThrough a Glass Darkly, she re-frame's cast-off creations with a sinister and humorous lens. The markings of time through rust and decayed photographs convey a painful nostalgia. Reminiscent of Calder’s wire circus and early surrealist assemblage, she utilizes an overhead projector and pins the elements to the studio wall. The cutouts and arrangements explore the act of looking and reflecting, and the idea of “exposure.” Broken narratives are created through intuitive pairings, with impulses at once playful, archetypal and uncanny. In this body of work she tries to maintain a spontaneity and honesty, and embrace her own artistic and personal mythology, where one’s own story speaks to a collective and universal narrative.
