First off I would like to say that anyone who thinks this movie sucks because it has very little plot is an idiot. Now let me tell you what Ninja Assassin isn't. Its not a serious thinking movie, Ninja: Assassin not a Ninja: Assassin, it's not a Saw type movie. And it isn't a Twilight that's for sure. The reason why Ninja Assassin is so friggin cool is because you know that the people making this movie had one thing in mind Have a ton of Ninjas kill each other. Ninja Assassin is a Ninja: Assassin guys night out type movie, at least that's how I saw this movie. Though some people walked out Ninja: Assassin I walked out cheering because I came in and honestly just wanted a huge body count and a ton of blood and boy Ninja: Assassin they deliver. My only major critique was the CGI blood Though there were gallons of it coming out they could have Ninja: Assassin it up some more In a way this movie was like Rambo Equal budget of 50 million, unbelievable carnage and pure fun Watch out for the opening scene and the police station scene because those scenes are epic awesome. Ninja Assassin () - IMDb Ninja Assassin is a neo-noir martial arts film directed by James McTeigue. The story was written by Matthew Sand, with a screenplay by J. Michael Straczynski. The film stars South Korean pop musician Rain as a disillusioned assassin looking Ninja: Assassin retribution against his former mentor, played by ninja film legend Sho Kosugi. Ninja Assassin explores political corruption, child endangerment and the impact of violence. It was distributed by Warner Bros. Ninja Assassin premiered in theaters across the United States on November 25, and received mixed reviews from critics. The Ozunu Clan, led by the ruthless Lord Ozunu, trains orphans from around the world to become the ultimate ninja assassins. Raizo is one of the orphans. The Ozunu Clan's training is extremely brutal, especially for Raizo since he is to be the next successor of the clan. The only kindness he ever feels is from a young kunoichi named Kiriko, with whom he eventually develops a romantic bond. As time goes by, Kiriko becomes disenchanted with the Ozunu's routine and decides to abandon it. One rainy night, Kiriko climbs a wall to escape and encourages Raizo to Ninja: Assassin her, but he chooses to stay. Branded as a traitor, Kiriko is captured and later executed in front of Raizo by Ninja: Assassin elder ninja brother Takeshi, who impales her through the heart. Years later, an adult Raizo is instructed by Lord Ozunu to complete his first assassination. After the mission, Raizo meets the rest of his clan atop a city skyscraper in Berlin. There, Lord Ozunu orders him to execute a kunoichi traitor. Remembering Kiriko's death, Raizo slashes Lord Ozunu's Ninja: Assassin with his kyoketsu-shoge and Ninja: Assassin against his fellow ninjas. Barely surviving, he falls off the rooftop Ninja: Assassin into a river. After years, Raizo recovers and trains on his own to intervene in, and foil, all of Ozunu's Ninja: Assassin attempts. Meanwhile, Europol agent Mika Coretti has been investigating money-linked political murders and finds out that they are possibly connected to the Ozunu. She defies her superior, Ryan Maslow, and retrieves secret agency files to find out more about the investigation. Mika meets Raizo and convinces him to see Maslow for protection, as well as to provide evidence against the Ozunu. However, Raizo is arrested by Maslow and abducted by Europol agents for interrogation. Although feeling betrayed, Mika is assured by Maslow that he is still on her side and gives her a tracking device for emergencies. The Ozunu ninjas infiltrate the Europol safe house, where Raizo is being held, in an attempt to kill him and everybody inside. Mika frees Raizo and they both manage to escape, but Raizo suffers near-fatal wounds. Mika then takes him to a motel to hide. Resting in the motel, Ninja: Assassin implants the tracking device into Raizo, as the ninjas remain in pursuit. Unable to fend off the Ozunu, she hides outside the motel until Special Forces arrive to help her. By the time they Ninja: Assassin, the ninjas have already kidnapped Raizo, bringing him before Lord Ozunu for execution. During the transport Ninja: Assassin to the Ozunu, Raizo uses his ninja techniques to heal his own wounds. Europol Special Forces and tactical teams Ninja: Assassin by Maslow storm the secluded Ozunu retreat nestled in the mountains using the tracking device on Raizo. Turning the night into day by saturating the sky above with powerful flares, the military forces are able to fight the ninjas on their own terms. In the confusion, Mika frees Raizo from his bindings. He proceeds to kill Takeshi and confront Lord Ozunu in a Ninja: Assassin duel. Mika interferes to help but gets Ninja: Assassin by Ninja: Assassin Ozunu. Enraged, Raizo uses a "shadow blending" technique for the first time to distract and kill Lord Ozunu. Mika, seemingly fatally wounded, is in fact saved by a quirk of birth: her heart is actually on the right side of her chest. With the Ninja: Assassin defeated, Europol leaves. Raizo stays behind in the ruins Ninja: Assassin the Ozunu retreat. Climbing the same wall Kiriko did Ninja: Assassin the past, he looks out at the surrounding countryside with Ninja: Assassin smile, feeling his freedom for the first time. The Wachowskis were inspired to make the film by actor Rain's impressive ninja-based fight scenes in their film Speed Racer. The initial screenplay was written by Matthew Sand, and was rewritten by J. Michael Straczynski only six weeks prior to filming due to the Wachowskis' initial dissatisfaction. Martial Artist turned actor Sho Kosugi had previously starred in a number of ninja movies playing ninja villains and heroes several times in the s, and had become a cult icon, hence his role as the antagonist Lord Ozunu, named after En no Ozunua 7th-century Japanese mystic and one of the developers of ninjutsu. Principal photography began in Berlin, Germany at the end of April Filming took place in Babelsberg Studios and on location throughout Berlin. On November 5,Warner Bros. Entertainment released the video game application based on the film for Ninja: Assassin IPhone. The film received mixed reviews by critics, while some praised the revival of the martial arts genre, the movie still failed on originality.

This dissertation looks at these two forms of the same enunciation and attempts to analise them both as cultural artifacts that belong to a specific time and place and as pseudo-political manifestos which extemporize to form a plethora of alternative actions and reactions. Whilst the former was written/drawn during the Thatcher years, the film adaptation has claimed the work as a herald for an alternative viewpoint thus pitting the original intent of the book with the sociological events of post 9/11 United States. Taking the original text as a basis for contrast, I have relied also on Professor James Keller‟s work V for Vendetta as Cultural Pastiche with which to enunciate what I consider to be lacunae in the film interpretation and to understand the reasons for the alterations undertaken from the book to the screen version. The first considers the ‘success’ of an Australian film, Mao’s Last Dancer, based on the life of a male Chinese diasporic ballet dancer, and the second, the ‘failure’ of two Hollywood films, Blood: The Last Vampire and Ninja Assassin which star Korean actors, Jeon Ji-hyun (Gianna Jun) and Jung Ji-hoon (Rain), Focusing on the ways in which these stars were produced and consumed transnationally, the paper questions the cultural, institutional and generic terms through which western films showcasing non- western bodies and themes are deemed to fail or succeed. It argues, ultimately, that a close examination of how certain narratives, genres, stars and performances are (mis)translated across different cultures demonstrates the continued existence of cultural and national differences in a supposedly swiftly globalizing world.   • Gender Inequality in 300 Popular Films
    1 Gender Inequality in Popular Films: Examining On Screen Portrayals and Behind-the-Scenes Employment Patterns in Motion Pictures Released between 2007-2009 We examined 4,342 speaking characters for gender and attributes of hyper sexualization in 100 top-grossing films from 2009. We also compared our current findings to those obtained when evaluating at 100 popular films released in 2007 and 2008. Below are the key findings. Key Findings Prevalence 32.8 percent of the speaking characters are female and 67.2% are male. This translates into 2.05 males to every one female. The percentage of female characters in 2009 films is identical to the percentage in 2008 films. Less that 17% of films are “gender balanced” or feature girls or women in 45-54.9% of all speaking roles. These findings are just shy of our 5% criterion demarcating change from 2007 to 2009. The lack of gender parity is surprising, as females represent 50% of the population and purchase roughly 50% of domestic movie tickets sold. Gender equality does not exist behind the camera. Across 1,240 gate-keeping positions, females accounted for only 3.6% of directors, 13.5% of writers, and 21.6% of producers. This calculates into a ratio of 4.51 males to every one female. Again, no movement in these numbers occurred across the last three years. Sexualization In 2009, females are more likely than males to be shown in sexy attire (25.8% vs. 4.7%), partially naked (23.6% vs. 7.4%), and attractive (10.9% vs. 2.5%).
