H-Announce City University of Macau/Asia International Open University/ University of East Asia/ East Asia Open College 40th Anniversary Announcement published by Priscilla Roberts on Monday, September 14, 2020 Type: Call for Volunteers Date: March 28, 2021 Location: China On March 28, 2021, City University of Macau will celebrate the 40th anniversary of its founding, in the original building of the University of East Asia, the first university in Macau whose founders were Chinese. City University of Macau has had a fairly complicated history. From 1981 to 1991, it was known as the University of East Asia. In Hong Kong, it also operated as the East Asia Open College. In 1991-2, the University of East Asia split into three. What had previously been the East Asia Open College and the Research College became the private Asia International Open University, with close ties to the Universidade Aberta of Portugal. (The other two successor institutions were Macau-based public universities, the current University of Macau and Macao Polytechnic Institute.) In 2010, the Asia International Open University became the City University of Macau, which moved in 2015 to the original campus of the University of East Asia. As we prepare to celebrate the 40th anniversary, we wish to make these celebrations inclusive and to involve as many stakeholders as possible. City University of Macau will welcome reminiscences, photographs, or other relevant materials of any kind from former teachers, students, alumni, or others who were in some way associated with it, in one (or indeed more) of its various incarnations, as the University of East Asia and East Asia Open College, Asia International Open University, or City University of Macau. Other relevant materials, e.g., photographs, reminiscences, from interested bystanders who were in Macau at that time are also most welcome. Should any such materials be considered confidential, the insights will be appreciated, but their confidential status will be respected. We will also be happy to conduct online interviews.
