He's come to open trade for “barbaric” England and squeeze out the Portuguese, who try to kill him at every turn. But once on land, he’s captive: the beauty and romance of the exquisite Moghul Empire seduce him from his material goals to a new quest – of supreme sensuality in music, visions, and sacred lovemaking. India, ruled by the son of great Akbar, is about to pass to one of his sons. Hawksworth must choose sides, but will he choose right? The future of England, and of India, depend on it.

Abstract This paper explores eroticism and pleasure in Diane Case’s Toasted Penis and Cheese showing the wide variety of available sexual pleasures to men and women, but with emphasis on the avenues of pleasure available to the woman. Sexual pleasures in the novel are presented in binary forms with the socio-cultural and religious factors determining what are classified in these binaries as good/bad, moral/immoral, and acceptable/unacceptable. Case represents different understandings and ideologies over varied sexual behaviours and pleasure without subscribing to the inhibitions generated by these ideologies – she rather places adult consent over them. The degree of sexual satisfaction or its denial contributes significantly to the general wellbeing of the individual, and, to an extent, determines the pace of human inter-relations. Key words: eroticism, sexual pleasure, sexual satisfaction/denial, sexuality, morality, auto-eroticism 1618 Ifeyinwa Genevieve Okolo Eroticism and sexual pleasure in Diane Case’s Toasted Penis and Cheese! LAWRENCE AND THE CHANGING DISCOURSE OF SEXUAL MORALITY IN THE ARAB EAST SUMMARY This thesis examines certain narratives in Richard Burton’s and T. E. Lawrence’s encounters with the Arab East. By juxtaposing both Orientalists’ accounts of Arab sexuality with the changes that had been taking place in Arabic literary and cultural discourse of the time, I highlight what appears to be a disparity in representation. Nonetheless, I argue that this disparity stems from a perception of ‘difference’ that characterises the relationship between East and West.

  • History of Sexual Medicine. Therapy of Common Sexual Problems: a Handbook
Brahmbhatt, Raj : History of Sexual Medicine. Therapy of Common Sexual Problems: A Handbook. 1998. p.1-11. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ History of Sexual Medicine Dr. Raj Brahmbhatt Introduction The study of human sexuality is not a recent interest. The history of sexual medicine is the history of human existence; the thread of sexuality is woven deeply in its fabric. Sex is a mystery. It is a fascinating subject to study when you think of the fact that life would come to a halt without this most natural of instincts. The prime purpose of sex is survival. Over the years, therapeutic approaches to help people with sexual problems have changed, indicating new findings and therefore, progress in the study of human sexuality. The emphasis of psychoanalysis or physical treatment is based on modem psychological, principles and has improved our understanding of sexuality. Various investigative modalities and intracavernous vasoactive drugs, implants and recent oral pills have changed the scenario of human sexuality. This is an attempt to tell in brief the history of sexual medicine and its pioneering practitioners. INDIAN CONTRIBUTION India is known as a holy-land and Indians, as having deep interest in spiritual knowledge. But that is an incomplete picture. In truth, since ancient times, Indians have considered both sensual pleasure and spiritual awareness as essential for human beings. Hindus recognize four goals for the complete, development of any man or woman: 1 Dharma Concerning moral and ideal needs Artha Concerning material needs Kama Concerning physical needs Moksha Eternal salvation Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha are together considered the very foundation of life.

  • Chapter -1 Introduction
Chapter -1 Introduction 1.1 Preamble 1.2 Sexual Behaviour In Ancient India 1.3 Sexual Behaviour Research in the West 1.4 Sexual Behaviour Research in India 1.5 Objectives of Research 1.6 Concepts and Definitions 1.6.1 Adolescence 1.6.2 Sexuality Chapter -1 Introduction 1.1 Preamble "Sex is as old as the world and man is the product of sex in more ways than one. Exploited by many and explored by not a few, it is a basic phenomenon that will never end - unless sex itself dies out. And that, of course, would mean the end of the world" (Brasch, 1975). Ancient Indian sages had appropriately understood the signal importance of sex in the life cycle of the human beings. "The first urge of a creature is hunger or thirst and the next is sex", is what one gets to read in the Chandogyopanishat III 17-1-3. (Incidentally, according to Kane, the period of Upanishads is thought to be roughly around 1000 BC). Hence Kama or sexual urge, was placed as one of the four Purusharthas (objectives of life), along with Dharma, Artha and Moksha. Dharma, Artha and Kama (righteous conduct, wealth and sex) are to be attained by man to complete his perfection in this life. Moksha (freedom from the cycle of birth and rebirth) is of the other world and is attained after death, if one were fit for it. The three worldly objects of life were treated as 'sciences' and hence one finds the scholarly works of Manu and others on Dharma-Shastra, Kautilya's Artha- Shastra and the Kama-Shastra written and perfected by many sages and scholars.
