On 10 August Parade 2019, the Love Mobiles of the Street Parade will roll around the Zurich lake 2019 basin. With the motto «Colours Of Unity», the organisers want to draw at- tention to the fact that a picture can only be colourful if a wide variety of co- lours are permitted and can unfold their effect together. For the 28th time on the day of the Street Parade, Zurich will become the unique tech- noid festival capital, a hotspot for electronic music. With the motto «Colours Of Unity», the organizers want to point out that life is more beautiful when different colors stick together. The colours represent the different origins, views, education or backgrounds of the visitors as well as the diversity of species in general. It is the colours of an entire society, an army of hundreds of thousands of peaceful and happy people, who cele- brate the sound of time at the Street Parade and are thus part of the fascinating de- monstration for love, peace, freedom and tolerance. In times when borders are closed and walls built, tolerant people from all over the world come together and unite on Zurich's streets - it's Street Parade. A community with all human colour nuances stands together and turns this unique experience into an event. The values of the Street Parade are open-heartedly lived and danced across generations at the world's largest techno event. This is the cornerstone for peaceful co- existence - regardless of religion, skin colour, origin or sexual orientation. Environmentally conscious with «Environment-Francs» For every drink sold, the Street Parade invest one Swiss-Franc in the environment and local charities. Through this, the organizers support responsibility and aware- ness for our environment and surrounding nature. Among other measures, waste will be separated into glass, aluminum and PET and recycled appropriately. Visitors and residents will experience increased comfort through the 100 additional toilet facilities brought into the city center, along with teams to collect used glass.

The emergence of techno music – commonly used in France as electronic dance music – in the early 1990s is inseparable from rave parties as a form of spatiotemporal deployment. It signifies that the live diffusion via a sound system powerful enough to diffuse not only its volume but also its sound frequencies spectrum, including infrabass, is an integral part of the techno experience. In other words listening on domestic equipment is not a sufficient condition to experience this music.

  • ANDERTON Music Festival Capitalism
1 Music Festival Capitalism Chris Anderton Abstract: This chapter adds to a growing subfield of music festival studies by examining the business practices and cultures of the commercial outdoor sector, with a particular focus on rock, pop and dance music events. The events of this sector require substantial financial and other capital in order to be staged and achieve success, yet the market is highly volatile, with relatively few festivals managing to attain longevity. It is argued that these events must balance their commercial needs with the socio-cultural expectations of their audiences for hedonistic, carnivalesque experiences that draw on countercultural understanding of festival culture (the countercultural carnivalesque). This balancing act has come into increased focus as corporate promoters, brand sponsors and venture capitalists have sought to dominate the market in the neoliberal era of late capitalism. The chapter examines the riskiness and volatility of the sector before examining contemporary economic strategies for risk management and audience development, and critiques of these corporatizing and mainstreaming processes. Keywords: music festival; carnivalesque; counterculture; risk management; cool capitalism A popular music festival may be defined as a live event consisting of multiple musical performances, held over one or more days (Shuker, 2017, 131), though the connotations of 2 the word “festival” extend much further than this, as I will discuss below. For the purposes of this chapter, “popular music” is conceived as music that is produced by contemporary artists, has commercial appeal, and does not rely on public subsidies to exist, hence typically ranges from rock and pop through to rap and electronic dance music, but excludes most classical music and opera (Connolly and Krueger 2006, 667).

  • Authenticity in Electronic Dance Music in Serbia at the Turn of the Centuries
The Other by Itself: Authenticity in electronic dance music in Serbia at the turn of the centuries Inaugural dissertation submitted to attain the academic degree of Dr phil., to Department 07 – History and Cultural Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz Irina Maksimović Belgrade Mainz 2016 Supervisor: Co-supervisor: Date of oral examination: May 10th 2017 Abstract Electronic dance music (shortly EDM) in Serbia was an authentic phenomenon of popular culture whose development went hand in hand with a socio-political situation in the country during the 1990s. After the disintegration of Yugoslavia in 1991 to the moment of the official end of communism in 2000, Serbia was experiencing turbulent situations. On one hand, it was one of the most difficult periods in contemporary history of the country. On the other – it was one of the most original. In that period, EDM officially made its entrance upon the stage of popular culture and began shaping the new scene. My explanation sheds light on the fact that a specific space and a particular time allow the authenticity of transposing a certain phenomenon from one context to another. Transposition of worldwide EDM culture in local environment in Serbia resulted in scene development during the 1990s, interesting DJ tracks and live performances. The other authenticity is the concept that led me to research. This concept is mostly inspired by the book “Death of the Image” by philosopher Milorad Belančić, who says that the image today is moved to the level of new screen and digital spaces. The other authenticity offers another interpretation of a work, or an event, while the criterion by which certain phenomena, based on pre-existing material can be noted is to be different, to stand out by their specificity in a new context.

  • Come Together! How Rave Returned to the Cultural Mix
Come together! How rave returned to the cultural mix Twenty five years on, the spirit of rave is being seen everywhere from catwalk fashion and art to the collective political experience of Acid Corbynism Lauren Cochrane Monday 27 November 2017 05.45 GMT efore the May bank holiday in 1992, Castlemorton Common in the Malvern Hills was B chiefly known only to walkers keen to hike through its 600 acres of unspoilt, unenclosed land. After that bank holiday, however, it became known as the site of Britain’s biggest-ever illegal rave. Partygoers arrived in such numbers that Castlemorton featured on TV and in the newspapers – which brought more revellers. In the end, an estimated 20,000 people flocked to the site. By the Tuesday, it had induced moral panic in the Daily Mail: “A walk through the hippy encampment was like walking into a scene from the Mad Max movies. Zombie-like youngsters on drugs walked aimlessly through the mobile shanty town or danced to the pounding beat,” it reported. By 1994, the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act was passed, with the now infamous ruling against parties playing music “characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats”. Twenty-five years after Castlemorton, rave is back in the pop culture mix. The aesthetic, culture and sound has trickled down to everything from the growth of the festival to the concept of chill-out, to your DayGlo wallet, clubbing scenes in Girls, a weekend in Ibiza and the Kirakira app’s sparkles. Most people might not be regularly indulging in four-day parties but, in 2017, rave’s cultural legacy extends far and wide.

  • Party Culture Qu’Est-Ce Qu’On Entend Par «Party Culture»?
