24 april 2020 provisional data In March 2020 in marked by the coronavirus disease Tourist arrivals and overnight stays, Slovenia, March 2020 Due to the Government action to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease, 75% fewer tourist arrivals and 67% fewer tourist overnight stays than in March 2019 were recorded in tourist accommodation establishments in March 2020. Almost 86,000 tourist arrivals and 270,000 overnight stays in March 2020

In March 2020 domestic tourists generated just over 38,000 arrivals (69% fewer than in March 2019) and almost 125,000 overnight stays (62% fewer than in March 2019). Foreign tourist generated just over 47,000 arrivals (78% fewer than in March 2019) and almost 146,000 overnight stays (71% fewer than in March 2019).

On 16 March the Government issued the Ordinance on the Provisional Prohibition on the Offering and Sale of Goods and Services to Consumers in the Republic of Slovenia. Tourist accommodation establishments could not register new tourist arrivals after this date.

The most foreign tourists from and

The most overnight stays among foreign tourists were generated by tourists from Austria (12% or 18,000), followed by tourists from Croatia (10%), (9%), (8%) and (7%).

Compared to March 2019, the number of overnight stays decreased the most for tourists from Italy (by 85%). The number of overnight stays decreased also for tourist from Austria (by 71%), Croatia (by 64%), Germany (by 63%) and Serbia (by 56%).

31% of all overnight stays in health (spa) resorts

In March 2020 the highest number of tourist overnight stays was recorded in health (spa) resorts (31% or 83,000), followed by mountain resorts (22%), municipality (14%) and seaside resorts (13%).

Compared to March 2019, the number of overnight stays decreased in all types of tourist municipalities: in seaside resorts by 75%, in municipality Ljubljana by 69%, in mountain resorts by 67% and in health (spa) resorts by 66%.

72% fewer overnight stays in hotels than in March 2019

Though hotels were again the first as regards the number of tourist overnight stays (138,000 or 51% of all tourist overnight stays), 72% fewer overnight stays were recorded there compared to March 2019. 19% of all overnight stays were recorded in private rooms, apartments and dwellings (60% fewer than in March 2019) and 5% in temporary accommodation establishments and marinas (33% fewer than in March 2019).

Just over 1.8 million tourist overnight stays in 2020

From January until the end of March 2020 tourists generated almost 667,000 arrivals (28% fewer than in the same period in 2019) and just over 1.8 million overnight stays (23% fewer than in the same period in 2019).
