Pocklington Ride 1 – EASY KEY Ride 3 – STEADY A short ride on flat terrain. Gentle hills, with a section along a busy road at the end Cycle Map 4.5 miles/7.25km, or 30 minutes riding time. Busy junction - take care of the route. Ideal for confident cyclists. Leave town following Route 66 signs towards Stamford 8 miles/13km, or 1 hour riding time. Bridge. Turn right at zebra crossing onto Garths End For safety reasons, we do not recommend that this route is cycled towards Driffield and Bridlington, then take the left at clockwise. roundabout heading towards Millington. Leave town following Route 66 signs towards Burnby. At Burnby follow Go straight on at sign for Meltonby and left at the sharp signs to Nunburnholme. At Nunburnholme take the first left onto Butt bend (you will see a large farm in front of you). Turn left Lane, and turn left at the T junction back towards Pocklington.     Hull History Centre: Papers of the Barnards Family of South Cave U DDBA Papers of the Barnards Family 1401-1945 of South Cave Historical background: The papers relate to the branch of the family headed by Leuyns Boldero Barnard who began building up a landed estate centred on South Cave in the mid-eighteenth century. His inherited ancestry can be traced back to William and Elizabeth Barnard in the late sixteenth century. Their son, William Barnard, became mayor of Hull and died in 1614. Of his seven sons, two of them also served time as mayor of Hull, including the sixth son, Henry Barnard (d.1661), through whose direct descendants Leuyns Boldero Barnard was eventually destined to succeed. Henry Barnard, married Frances Spurrier and together had a son and a daughter. His daughter, Frances, married William Thompson MP of Humbleton and his son, Edward Barnard, who lived at North Dalton, was recorder of Hull and Beverley from the early 1660s until 1686 when he died. He and his wife Margaret, who was also from the Thompson family, had at least seven children, the eldest of whom, Edward Barnard (d.1714), had five children some of whom died without issue and some had only female heirs. The second son, William Barnard (d.1718) married Mary Perrot, the daughter of a York alderman, but had no children. The third son, Henry Barnard (will at U DDBA/14/3), married Eleanor Lowther, but he also died, in 1769 at the age of 94, without issue. From the death of Henry Barnard in 1769 the family inheritance moved laterally.

    Medieval Heritage and Pilgrimage Walks Cleveland Way Trail: walk the 3 miles from Rievaulx Abbey, Yorkshire to Helmsley Castle and tread in the footsteps of medieval Pilgrims along what’s now part of the Cleveland Way Trail. Camino de Santiago/Way of St James, Spain: along with trips to the Holy Land and Rome, this is the most famous medieval pilgrimage trail of all, and the most well-travelled in medieval times, at least until the advent of Black Death. Its destination point is the spot St James is said to have been buried, in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Today Santiago is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites. Read more . the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela holds a Pilgrims’ Mass every day at noon. Walk as much or as little of it as you like. Follow the famous scallop shell symbols. A popular starting point, both today and in the Middle Ages, is either Le Puy in the Massif Central, France OR the famous medieval Abbey at Cluny, near Paris. The Spanish start is from the Pyrenees, on to Roncevalles or Jaca. These routes also take in the Via Regia and/or the Camino Frances. The Portuguese way is also popular: from the Cathedrals in either Lisbon or Porto and then crossing into Falicia/Valenca. At the end of the walk you receive a stamped certifi cate, the Compostela. To achieve this you must have walked at least 100km or cycled for 200. To walk the entire route may take months. Read more . The route has inspired many TV and fi lm productions, such as Simon Reeve’s BBC2 ‘Pilgrimage’ series (2013) and The Way (2010), written and directed by Emilio Estevez, about a father completing the pilgrimage in memory of his son who died along the Way of St James.

    East Yorkshire Motor Services – May 2018 Changes Introduction East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) has notified the Council of a large number of changes to local bus services in the East Riding which will come into effect from Sunday 6th May 2018. These include changes to a large number of commercial services, which are outside the direct control of the Council. The changes also include a number of local bus and home to school services which were funded by the Council. In this note you will find details of the replacement operators on the home to school services relinquished by EYMS and details of the replacement services and bus operators for the contracted local bus services previously provided by EYMS. The Council has also taken action to replace two commercial services the 220 and 504 cancelled by EYMS. If your local bus service is not operated by EYMS, or if it is operated by EYMS but not in the list below, then there are no planned changes. Changes to Commercial Services These changes are being introduced by East Yorkshire Motor Services from Sunday 6th May 2018 and are changes to services which are not funded by the Council.     The WOLDSMAN DRUFC Newsletter Apr 2016 Only 3 games left for the 1 st xv, Morley (h), Alnwick (a) & Morpeth (h). 3 teams in the top half of the table, (Morley 2 nd, Alnwick 3 rd & Morpeth 6 th ), and 3 teams we have not beaten in league so far. The only team to do the double over us this far is Phoenix, hopefully it will stay like that come 5pm 23 April. 4th place in the league is a possibility, with 8 points between us and 4th place Dinnington that’s our aim. I have enjoyed this season, I think we have played well, mostly; however, we have had a couple of off days too. The draw at Beverley, one of the latter. The team has certainly improved throughout the year, we have brought some very talented young lads into the squad, who have all settled in well, and performed above expected. Looking to next season, the league appears to be getting stronger again, at the bottom we will lose, Bev, Westoe & 1 of either Wheatley or Northern, at the top, Doncaster Phoenix continue their march to National leagues, whilst Morley will most likely play away at Kirby Lonsdale in the East / West Play off. Joining the league will be Bradford & bingley from Yorkshire 1, Durham City have an 8 point over Middlesborough In D &N1, that will mean Malton & Middlesborough will play off at the moment at Middlesborough. Coming down will be 1 of Cleckheaton or Huddersdfield YMCA. It is still a bit early to start calling it yet, but I think we could be making a trip across the pennies again, we will see.
